Former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood has delivered his verdict on Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s chances of signing Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window.

The Norwegian has been incredible since he joined us back in January. He has gone from strength to strength, and his performances in the last few weeks have made him one of Arsenal’s best players.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

The sad part for Arsenal is that Odegaard will return to Real Madrid at the end of this season. Nobody knows what the Galacticos will do this summer, but the Gunners will do everything they possibly can to sign him on a permanent deal.

Sherwood believes that Odegaard, labelled as phenomenal by Arteta, will join Arsenal this summer but only if Arteta can manage to get his side into next season’s Champions League by winning the Europa League this term.

He said on Optus Sport’s The Analysis Show: “I think they would love to sign him if they possibly could. I would definitely sign him. I think Odegaard might only come to Arsenal if they finish in the Champions League, which means they need to win the Europa League.

“They aren’t going to finish in the top four. Possibly another year on loan, it gives them another season to look at him and Odegaard another year to look at Arsenal. Ideally, Mikel Arteta would like to get him signed.”

The Insider’s View:

Winning this season’s Europa League is extremely important for Arsenal.

Getting into next season’s Champions League is a big boost in itself for the prestige of the club, but the money that comes from it will help us fund moves for Odegaard and other players of similar quality.

The one positive for Arsenal is that Odegaard is enjoying regular game time under Mikel Arteta. He will not get the same at Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane, which could make the Norwegian force his way out of the Spanish capital to join us this summer.
