'We had a one-on-one conversation': Agent confirms club's interest in Arsenal star

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut spoke to Turkish outlet Fanatik about Fenerbahce’s interest in his client.

Arsenal are trying to force the German out of the club. Mikel Arteta has no interest in playing him, and the January transfer window gives him the option of finding regular game time elsewhere.

Fenerbahce are reportedly keen to sign Ozil next month. The Yellow Canaries are a club that the former Real Madrid man has publicly claimed that he is a fan of, and a move to Turkey makes a lot of sense.

Sogut has confirmed one-on-one talks with some of the club’s chiefs, but he insists that Ozil is still working really hard to get back into the Arsenal squad for the second half of the season.

Ozil has received offers from all over the world

He said: “Mesut has another 6-month contract with Arsenal. Certainly, he missed football. He is currently working hard to wear the Arsenal shirt again, and he will continue to work. I would like to clearly state our situation regarding Fenerbahçe.”

“Yes, we had meetings with Fenerbahçe. We had a one-on-one conversation with the club’s most authorized people. However, we can never have a contact before January for official transfer talks.”

“We received transfer offers for Mesut from all over the world. Fenerbahce’s interest is also known. Nothing has changed for Mesut right now. Under these circumstances, it seems that Mesut will complete the season in Arsenal.”

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Ozil clearly has no future at Arsenal. Staying at the Emirates until the end of his contract makes a lot of sense financially, but if he really cares about playing this season, he has to leave.

Arsenal will let him walk away tomorrow if he is ready to terminate his contract. However, leaving before the end of his deal will cost him millions in loyalty bonuses, and can we really blame him if he isn’t prepared to do that?
