Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in world football.

The Gunners are a global brand, and wherever they turn up in the world, thousands of people get together to watch them.

That has always been the case over the years, but Mikel Arteta’s transformation of the club has made Arsenal even more attractive in recent seasons.

That’s not just good news commercially for Arsenal, but it also helps attract some of the best players in the world on the transfer market.

Viktor Gyokeres is a great example.

Viktor Gyokeres was offered to Real Madrid before Arsenal signed him

Arsenal completed the signing of Viktor Gyokeres last week.

The Sweden international has been among the most prolific strikers on the planet over the last two years, and he was due a big move away from Portugal.

Arsenal were left unhappy with Sporting CP during negotiations because their president, Frederico Varandas, made things difficult at every step.

Reports emerged that Sporting offered Gyokeres to Manchester United while negotiating with Arsenal, which is not good at all.

Now, Jonathan Chalkias, an agent who works alongside Gyokeres’ representative Hasan Cetinkaya, has revealed that Sporting offered the ‘unstoppable‘ striker to Real Madrid as well.

However, Gyokeres stuck to his word and chose Arsenal.

Speaking to WTV in Sweden, Chalkias said: “There was a gentleman’s agreement with the previous sporting director. If Hugo Viana were still at Sporting, the deal would have been done in an hour.

“Everything was written, we didn’t have time to start a legal battle. I don’t understand how a player who scored so many goals and won three trophies didn’t deserve more respect. The sacrifices we made were the turning point for the deal to happen.

“They offered Gyokeres to Real Madrid, they even made headlines with Manchester United, but there was a commitment with Arsenal.”

Andrea Berta should learn one important lesson after signing Viktor Gyokeres

Andrea Berta deserves a lot of praise for landing Gyokeres this summer.

The Italian used his years of experience to strike a deal, despite Sporting’s consistent efforts to complicate it at every stage.

The most important thing is that Arsenal have signed Gyokeres, but there is an important lesson that should be learned after the negotiations.

Arsenal should vow never to do any business with Sporting CP again as long as Varandas is their president.

If the Portuguese champions come calling to sign an Arsenal player, Berta should play the same tricks that his counterpart at Sporting did during the Gyokeres deal.
