Arsenal are reportedly one of a few clubs interested in a January move for Atletico Madrid defender Nahuel Molina.

Mikel Arteta’s side is currently short of defensive depth, with Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey injured, and the full-back is now a target for the winter window.

TuttoJuve have now reported that Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester City are all interested in Molina, as well as Juventus and Arsenal are ready to make “a very high offer” for the 25-year-old.

Molina was part of the Argentina squad which won the World Cup last year, as an alternative option to Gonzalo Montiel at right-back in Qatar, and has been an impressive performer for Atletico Madrid.

Why Pele Is Overrated.

What could Molina bring to Arsenal?

The right-back is strong going forward, but this does raise a question of whether he can fit into Arsenal’s current setup.

He is a more natural right-back than Ben White or Takehiro Tomiyasu, who are both capable of playing centrally and perhaps he is being viewed as a player who can provide a different option at the back.

Given that he has four years left to run on his deal, it could take a big bid to prise him away from Diego Simeone’s side, and it is unclear how much Arsenal would be willing to pay for him.

He is someone who can potentially invert as a right back, and perhaps he could replicate what Partey was doing in the position at the start of the season. The former Udinese star is comfortable on the ball, and would arrive with significant European and international experience under his belt.

Molina joined Atletico just over a year ago as Simeone aimed to replace Kieran Trippier, and after a slow start, he has become a strong option at the back for the La Liga side.

He has even appeared on the left on a number of occasions, and Arteta may see him as someone who can help replace Timber’s versatility whilst the Dutchman remains injured.
