Out of the blue, change could happen at Arsenal on transfer deadline day, with a midfielder on Andrea Berta’s watchlist.
A lot has changed at Arsenal since the news broke that Mikel Merino has a serious foot injury.
Berta could sign a player on transfer deadline day, with several names already making the shortlist.
Arsenal have spoken to Sandro Tonali, and LOSC Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi has also been linked, but amid the chaos, another name the Gunners appreciate has been urged to leave his club.

Memphis Depay tells Arsenal target Breno Bidon to leave Corinthians
Arsenal have been linked to Breno Bidon of Corinthians for some time, and given the Brazilian football calendar, rumours resurfaced in January.
Berta enquired about Bidon in December, and since then, he’s been told to leave the club by one of his teammates, Memphis Depay.
After Corinthians won the Supercopa do Brasil, Depay spoke to SporTV, where he praised the Arsenal target.
“He’s very intelligent, he has great potential. He works hard, with focus, a strong mentality… He’s young, but he has a lot of quality. A special player,” Depay said, as transcribed by Netfla.
Depay then made it very clear that he believes Bidon should leave Brazil in search of a greater challenge.
“He needs to leave Brazil to gain more experience and go to the national team.”
The former Manchester United man did stress that he didn’t want the midfielder on Arsenal’s radar to suddenly depart, given his importance to Corinthians.
“Not now, please! He’s very f—— good, very, very good,” he concluded.
Pros and cons about Arsenal transfer for Bidon
It’s unclear whether Bidon is a name on Berta’s shortlist this deadline day, but there are pros and cons to a possible move.
For Arsenal, signing one of the best young midfielders in South America would be a plus following Merino’s injury, and a transfer would serve Bidon well too, but only to an extent.
Could Breno Bidon be Mikel Merino’s replacement?
Gabriel thinks so 👀
After Corinthians, the only thing on Bidon’s mind is the 2026 World Cup, which is why the idea of moving to Arsenal might be questioned by the player.
Game time wouldn’t be as guaranteed at the Emirates, which could both help and hinder World Cup hopes.
Right now, a move seems unlikely given that Bidon is still coming down from winning silverware at Corinthians.
