Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of one of their top transfer targets.
Mikel Arteta is prioritising improving the quality of his side’s attack this summer, and one player being heavily floated is Eli Junior Kroupi.
Reports had suggested that the Bournemouth teenager was leaning towards a move to PSG, with Foot Mercato claiming the Parc des Princes was his favoured destination.
That development could have been a huge blow for Arsenal, who also look set to lose out on Julian Alvarez to Barcelona.
However, Get French Football News is now reporting that PSG are not currently pursuing Kroupi, with other attacking targets taking priority at the club.
AS Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche and Yan Diomande have been touted as options for the French champions instead.
You’re Mikel Arteta…who is your NUMBER ONE big summer signing this year?
That is a massive boost for Arsenal, who are understood to value him highly as both an immediate and long-term addition to Arteta’s attack.
Chelsea had also been interested, but those links have since gone quiet — leaving Arsenal in an increasingly strong position.
Eli Junior Kroupi fits exactly what Arsenal need this summer
Arteta has been clear that this summer is about improving the starting XI rather than adding depth.
Kroupi fits that brief perfectly — a dynamic, instinctive forward with pace, directness and a natural goal-scoring ability that Arsenal’s attack has lacked at times.
With questions remaining over both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard’s future, there is space for Kroupi to come in and make an immediate impact.
Morgan Rogers remains Arsenal’s primary senior target, but Kroupi represents a different and complementary profile.
Valued at over £80million, Kroupi broke the Premier League record for goals scored by a teenager in a debut season, netting 13 times for Bournemouth.
At just 19, he already possesses the profile of a player capable of performing at the very highest level, and Arsenal know it better than most.
Of course, it was Kroupi’s goal against Manchester City that handed Arsenal the title, with Bournemouth’s 1-1 draw officially confirming the Gunners as champions.
PSG stepping back gives Arsenal a clear path. And they should take it.
