Barcelona are confident that Julian Alvarez wants to sign for them this summer, and they will be able to make a strong financial offer, despite interest from Arsenal.
Arsenal are keen to make a move for Alvarez, and have added him to their list of transfer targets for the summer window.
If you’re Andrea Berta and Julian Alvarez is offered to you for £87m, would you sign him?
Too much money or a big bargain?
The Argentine joined Atletico during the 2024 summer transfer for £82 million and would likely cost a similar fee next summer.
FC Barcelona and Arsenal could well go head-to-head, and the Spanish club think they will have a key advantage in the race.
Barcelona think Julian Alvarez wants to join them over Arsenal
Barcelona believe that Julian Alvarez is keen on a move to the Nou Camp next summer, according to Pol Ballus.
Atletico Madrid want big money for Alvarez, but Barca are confident that they will be able to make a suitable offer for the attacker.
Ballus writes in The Athletic: “Those behind the scenes assume that Barca will try to sign Alvarez, and the Catalans believe the 26-year-old is keen on the prospect of joining them.
“Club sources are also confident Barca will be in a financial position to make a reasonable offer to Atletico.”
The Catalan giants are looking to replace Robert Lewandowski and see the 26-year-old as a player who would be the perfect option.
Arsenal are also looking to sign a striker, but are just looking to add to their attack, with Viktor Gyokeres still being supported by the club.
Andrea Berta is assessing possible options, and signing Alvarez for a second time is a possibility, having also brought him to the Wanda Metropolitano.
Fill in the blank: Viktor Gyokeres is now worth £___m following his start to life at Arsenal…
Arsenal paid £63m in the summer…
Alvarez is having a rather mixed campaign at the Wanda Metropolitano, scoring 14 goals and six assists in 39 matches.
That is one less than Gyokeres, who is now closing in on the 20-goal mark at Arsenal, which is not an awful return for his first season at the Emirates Stadium.
Therefore, given the Gunners recently invested £63 million in Gyokeres, forking out another £80 million plus on a striker with fewer goals doesn’t make a great deal of sense.
