Arsenal will be gunning to sign a striker in the summer transfer window, with several targets mapped out.

After Mikel Arteta requested a striker in January, pressure automatically mounted on Arsenal’s hierarchy to hire a goalscorer.

Though Arsenal made an offer for Ollie Watkins during the winter market, the Englishman never arrived, giving Andrea Berta a clear job to address in the summer.

Berta has a strong history of signing strikers, giving fans promise ahead of the 2025 window, with a few names already uttered to be on the Italian’s shortlist.

Manchester United make Viktor Gyokeres transfer a priority

Shortly after Berta was unveiled, Arsenal’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres was reported by renowned journalist David Ornstein.

The Gunners have been linked to the Sporting CP marksman before, but now, it’s thought that connections are strengthening as Berta is an admirer of Gyokeres

Having scored 52 goals for Sporting in 2024/25, it’s clear to see why the Swede is wanted by Arsenal, but with good form comes attention, which could throw a spanner in the works of Berta’s pursuit.

Writing for Footmercato, journalist Santi Aouana shared an update on Gyokeres’ future, revealing that the 26-year-old is considered a ‘priority’ target for Manchester United.

It’s understood that in the event of securing Champions League football, Gyokeres would be Man United’s top target; however, to Arsenal’s relief, Ruben Amorim has two ‘solid’ alternatives.

The report focuses on United’s interest in Victor Osimhen of Napoli, as well as sharing that the Red Devils are monitoring Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.

Footmercato state that United have met with Osimhen’s representatives, giving Arsenal a boost in their desire to beat interested parties to Gyokeres.

Several strikers to watch in the summer transfer window

Signing a guaranteed striker is one of the most difficult challenges in world football, even more so at a time when so many clubs are eager to bolster their front line.

Arsenal need a number nine more than most, something Berta will be more than aware of, and fortunately, the Gunners’ demand comes ahead of an interesting window.

The summer could see several high-profile goal scorers find new clubs, with Gyokeres being one of a bright list of possible targets.

Arsenal have been scouting Benjamin Sesko, who is one player who could move on in the summer.

January target Watkins is unhappy with Unai Emery at Aston Villa, with a case made for Osimhen, Delap and even Alexander Isak’s futures as well.

It remains to be seen who Berta decides to prioritise in the summer market, but one thing is for certain and that’s that the Italian will surely end Arsenal’s hunt for a seasoned number nine.
