Arsenal appear to be moving closer to securing the signing of Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer.
The Gunners are in the market for a new number nine, as Mikel Arteta looks to find an upgrade on the likes of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
Benjamin Sesko has long been mooted as a primary target for Arsenal, while the likes of Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike have also been linked with a switch to N5.
However, Gyokeres has emerged as the most likely striker signing, with Andrea Berta leading the charge for the prolific Swedish centre-forward.

Sporting star Trincao hints at Viktor Gyokeres exit
Fabrizio Romano believes Arsenal can sign Gyokeres for less than £55 million, which would certainly be a coup.
The 26-year-old has scored a staggering 53 goals this season, whilst also registering 12 assists for the Primeira Liga giants.
The Gunners are crying out for a striker as productive as this, and it appears they may be close to landing the Sporting star.
Speaking in an interview on Portuguese radio show Manhas da Comercial, Sporting winger Trincao hinted that Gyokeres is potentially on his way out this summer.
The former Wolves man said he’d “try to lock Gyokeres in the gym” to keep him at the Lisbon club.
While a light-hearted comment that was made in jest, Trincao’s comments do indicate that Sporting expect their talisman to move on in the upcoming transfer window.

Viktor Gyokeres will need time to adapt to the Premier League
As prolific as Gyokeres has been in the Primeira Liga, there’s no guarantee that he’s able to translate this goal-scoring form to the Premier League, at least not from the outset.
The Portuguese top flight is largely made up of clubs that possess similar wage bills to lower-end Championship or higher-end League One teams.
This likely means the quality is roughly similar to these sides, and thus, Gyokeres will need time to settle and adapt to the increased physicality and intensity of the English top flight.
| Gyokeres’ Primeira Liga Statistics 2024/25 | |
| Appearances | 33 |
| Goals | 39 |
| Assists | 7 |
| Non-Penalty Goals | 27 |
| Shots | 4.08 |
| Expected Goals per 90 | 0.99 |
| Non-Penalty Expected Goals per 90 | 0.69 |
| Key Passes per 90 | 1.96 |
| Expected Assists per 90 | 0.22 |
His numbers in Portugal are outstanding, amassing almost one expected goal per 90 minutes, whilst scoring 27 non-penalty goals in 33 appearances.
However, he won’t be afforded the time and space he’s allowed there to get his shots off in the Premier League.
While Gyokeres would represent an exciting signing for Arsenal fans, there will have to be an acceptance that he may not hit the ground running instantly.
