Give Gallas what he wants, AW…

gallas5

By CARL ELDRIDGE Will Arsene Wenger find time to finalise a new deal for Bill Gallas before the transfer window? The way he has been playing alongside Tommy Vermaelen I certainly hope so.

Gallas is out of contract in the summer and is free to talk to interested clubs come January and leave on a free transfer in the summer. Our former skipper is 33 next August and in the past AW has been reluctant to give players in their thirties anything longer than a two-year extentsion at most. I still rue the day he wouldn’t give Bobby Pires a longer deal.

AW has stated that talks are ongoing but that could mean anything to be blunt. It is fair to say Gallas has overcome a difficult period to forge an impressive partnership Tommy Gunner and as we are hardly flush with centre-halves it would surely make sense to give Gallas what he wants.

After all, this will probably be Gallas’s last contract in football and we could hardly blame him if he looked at a move abroad for one last pay day. Both AC Milan and Inter Milan were linked with Gallas when he appeared on the brink of quitting after losing the captaincy last year, while he has in the past hinted at a return to France.

If he can’t secure Gallas’s services, it is said that AW has already identified Borussia Dortmund centre-half Neven Subotic as a long-term replacement. He is said to have been tracking Subotic since he joined Mainz as a teenager and he has impressed at Dortmund, where he has signed a new deal until 2014.

Trouble is we are not alone in liking what we see. It is said that Manchester City, Manchester United, Inter and Juventus are also said to be keeping tabs on the 20-year-old, who would cost at least £15million.

{jcomments on}Press speculation suggests AW sees the 6ft 4in Serbia defender as an ideal target but, additionally, it is reported that it is unlikely any move will take place in January as Dortmund would be unwilling to sell during the season. Gallas has earned a new, improved deal in my opinion. Don’t be stubborn AW – give him what he wants and let’s crack on.

I have to admit that I was one of those calling for the head of Gallas last season, but he has more than made up for the events and attitude that led to his loss of the captaincy.

His partnership with Vermaelen has been an eye opener and he fully deserves a new contract. We certainly can’t afford to lose him either now or at the end of the season.

I agree with Eldo71 on this. Arsene sign him up!

Give Big Willie a 2-3 year contract but also buy a replacement for him and let him serve his time under Gallas, then once Gallas starts to decline, the replacement will be well settled and ready to go!

We need to keep Gallas as he is the best that’s available to partner TV but we need more depth at the back.
Senderos appears to be off Arsene’s Xmas card list and with JD out for a while we are thin here.
I’d have no problem giving him an improved but short contract, in case he goes a bit mad again.

We had every chance last Summer to create the best defence in the Premiership – could have signed Shay Given (thr best by a mile) and Richard Dunne. Dunne alongside Thomas with Given behind them and Clichy and Sagna either side. Enough to rival even the back 4 of old. AW’s great at producing creative attacking types, but with the exception of TV, abysmal at finding defenders. Gallas is not the answer beyond this season. Neither is Almunia/Fabianski/Mannone, all 3 together wouldn’t be better than Given.

I think Arsene needs to give a 2 years extension to Gallas BUT with the only purpose to gets a few millions in the summer by his sell.

Even that I think he´s playing great, he´s not the perfect couple of Vermaelen.

The perfect couple of Vermaelen is someone vey tall and that rarely goes to the middle, someone that is always in the back to cover Vermaelen when he runs to attack.

Someone like Mertesacker, Subotic or Alex are the perfect couple for T.V.

I think we need to remember that WG may not want to stay. he is on a freebie. he could a few million signing on fee and bigger wages in Italy or Spain. He also may want a new challenge at the end of his career.

I would like him to stay, but feel he may have already decided to go. if we win something, who knows….
