FTK Blog: I HATE FOOTBALL!

arsenal-v-aston-villa-emirates-stadium

I hate football, yes, you read this correctly. I HATE FOOTBALL!

I hate my addiction to needing to know the result of games and the desire to travel to games and be there to see my team. I hate the need to shout and sing and encourage the players to work harder. This roller coaster of emotion had me deciding not to watch the Aston Villa game live on some dodgy internet link last night. So I tuned in later to Sky’s extended highlights on Football First.

I settled down with my cold beer in hand. My heart was racing, I had already heard that Chelsea had beaten Birmingham 3-nil and so were top of the league with 51 points. We could overtake the Chavs, albeit still with them having a game in hand. The game began and within ten minutes I was a nervous wreck. I asked myself was this really the same team that I saw demolish Aston Villa in 20 amazing minutes at the Emirates?

Where was the rapid interchange of passes? Where were the confident punches from the goalkeeper? Where was the feeling that every time we were on the ball, Arsenal would score? The loss of Vermaelen made my guts twist into an awful sense of fear and nausea. Ok Sol Campbell is a Gooner!

The game went on, I sank lower into my seat, but at least I was heartened by hearing nothing but the Arsenal away support singing on the soundtrack! At least the boys were there!

As the second half began I pictured the Gooners that I knew from past away games, and how they would be singing at the Holt end “Shall we sing a song for you?” I recall my last visit to Villa park, a strange lack of atmosphere for such a potentially big club. Fabregas’s shot ricocheted off the post, my heart lept and the pulse in my temple began to throb. YESSS! I knew that we could turn this around, in two minutes we will have netted the winner! Subs were made. Nic Bendtner looked useful, I buried my head as a  good chance went begging, I whispered to myself, “Can’t blame Bendtner for that, he’s only just returned”

The game ended in a draw and I felt emotionally drained. Two more points dropped, and why? Chelsea seem to go on and on. Man United seem to score with only 30 seconds to go? But currently this Arsenal team seem intent on reinventing the big dipper Roller Coaster on Blackpool Pleasure beach. White knuckle rides and fear, we’ve got it. Trouser soaking, gut wrenching disappointment? We’ve got it. Finger nail biting anticipation? We’ve got it. Heart throbbing admiration and hope? We’ve got it… Utterly mind-blowing ecstasy and elation resulting in one almost passing out with the pleasure? We’ve got it.

As I said at the beginning, I HATE FOOTBALL for subjecting me to this torture of emotions. But I LOVE THE ARSENAL….

Ten games unbeaten? We’ve got it! Still have the Title in our sights? We’ve got it. Aston Villa was a tricky game anyway and at least we didn’t lose! Optimism? We’ve got it!

Roll on Sunday when I don my colours and head for the Emirates.

I know how you feel. Another Insider said they wanted to go on holiday without any football results for the next few weeks and i have to agree. Its gunna be a tough ride, but hopefully an enjoyable one that sees us come out relatively unscathed in terms of distance from the top.

know how you feel bro. Was watching the game yesterday thinking, I’ll just have to live with the emotions, otherwise it wouldn’t be half the fun. It’s just becasue it means something to us why we get so emotionally drained.

It certainly will be a white knuckle ride all the way to the end though. Injuries are killing us though..

Bring on UTD and a much needed 3 pts!

As a Liverpool fan I was hoping you’d win also. Apart from our need to see Villa et al drop points so we can (hopefully) make that coveted 4th spot, I would like to see Arsenal win the PL over manure and the chavs! Unless of course someone does a deal with the devil at Anfield and we pull it around to win the championship come may! Yeah I know pigs may fly etc etc!! Oh and I got onto this page, in case you were wondering, as I am looking for news on Vermaelen’s injury as I may need to replace him in my fantasy football team!!!

Latest news on transfers is that Arsenal continue to look.
AC Milan have turned down our loan request for Huntelaar, Victor Moses is up for sale from Crystal Palace and at 3 million the 19yr might be an option, but he is mainly a winger.
Robin van Persie will be back for the semi-finals if we make it through the first two knock out rounds…. :-|

I listened to the game on Radio 5 Sports Extre and believe me, it’s even more painful than watching live or on the telly!!
Come on you Gunners. We can definately beat Man U & Liverpool and get a point against Chelsea. Then it will be up for grabs….

Well said FTK. You summed it all up perfectly. Why do we do this? Why? Because we invest something of ourselves in the Club – we become like a family. We are the Club. Their success is our success and we crave success. We love the beauty of their play and we warm ourselves in the glow of its creativity and excitement. We love it – we love the Arsenal – we love the way we play – we love Arsene – and we would love it if he signed a centre forward, a centre half and a goal-keeper in the next 4 days!!!

I know how you feel. I love Arsenal to pieces but watching games over the last 12-24 months has left me feeling unsatisfied, yes we play the sexiest football in the world but it leaves me feeling empty inside knowing that its all in vain and we are almost certin to fail. It’s like being married to Angelia Jolie and having to sleep in the spare room.

Every game I watch I end up screaming at the screen, when we concede a goal and go one nil down I can’t watch any more and have to leave the room or turn the channel over. Its funny, during the Henry years we lost some stupid games but it never hurt. It drives me crazy that we don’t live up to our potential and Wenger doesn’t make those one or two killer signings that would make us truly great.

AW is such a disgrace, I cant believe his latest comments towards Aston Villa about them playing the long ball. This idiot can get so spiteful when results don’t go his way all hes doing is embarrassing himself then people wonder why half of the premier league of managers laugh at him, AW out that’s all i can say lies constantly thinks he owns the club we will always have bids turned down for players for as long as this clown is the manager of the club due to his Netto’s price rage bids he puts in for players, The man just refuses to take his own head out of his own backside.

I agree with most of what you say BigL, and much as it pains me to say it.
We have to try and see the bigger picture.
When we have to win an important game, we can never be exactly certain because we do not possess a top class keeper.

    SUCCESS BEGINS AT THE BACK!

George Graham knew that. But we must support this team now until the end of the season as painful as it may be. We are the ARSENAL!

song, gallas, campbell to pick from for cb’s for sunday. play gallas and song and leave sol on the bench again. he did a good job but alot of games (3) in a short period of time might push our luck. we were the better team in the second half and had all the opportunities.
they went on about young v clichy down our left but other than the first half “fall” where he was left alone I think he really held his own. course nothing came from their “man of the match”
by the way ars v manure getting alot of worldwide press due to the first game to be played in 3D. another arsenal first!! shows where we rank in world club football, at the top.

IF (big IF) half of the managers in the Prem “laugh” at AW you can be sure it’s the saddo’s languishing at the bottom of the league who’s idea of a result against our great team (not yours) is hacking and maiming at every opportunity. I constantly read the respect he gets from the managers that matter, i.e. the ones at the other end of the league. Muppet.

    James,oh James.
You are good,a wind up merchant, and i doubt very much you even like the game.
Your comments lack any real substance, just intent on annoying people.
Take the real pearl,’half of the Premier league manager laugh at him’.
Gosh that made me giggle….half of the premier managers are not fit to clean his boots, how many have his success, intelligence, class, integrity.
    Like i said James,you are a tinker,just not a very clever one.

i watched arsene’s interview on atvo and i still don’t understand why martin o’neill is complaining. it seemed like wenger was paying them a compliment saying they got their tactics right and the players executed the game plan well. and no one can deny that villa play a very ‘english’ game. they play it long to heskey or carew or agbon… and then they get it wide and cross it and try to head it in. arsene wasn’t saying there was anything wrong with that.

hello all, i hate being out of the loop but my internet has been down and i got a good kick-in last weekend which has left me feeling simple like your average spurs fans. only a win against villa could have helped but like you ftk i decided against finding some dodgy stream. our temples must have been thudding in tandem during football first. it couldnt have been worse than watching dagenham at home to notts county. terrible football altho the fans singing at hughes MUR-DER-RER MUUUR-EEER-REEER was quite dark but also funny. lets keep these sorts of spirits up at the arsenal. something good is just around the corner … :D

  • Not over the hill

If Walcott observed the play of the long ball into open space for Young to run onto, he will benefit from this ploy in the future. Our basic tactic is be to keep possession in the opposing half. With our “jailkeeper” No.1 by the bye, could then perhaps direct his kicks into the open space for Walcott to show his mettle for the contest. There are Jewish supporters and shareholders at the Emirates as well as WHL. A more appropriate epithet could be X the Yobbo!! Some of the spiel seems to go forth and multiply!
