Sagna ‘could switch to Inter in the summer’

national_newspapers_montage
by CARL ELDRIDGE Here we go…the transfer merry-go-round has been oiled and is poised to move into fifth gear as the season comes to a close. And the Arsenal are perennial victims of the rumour mill (well, what else would we do all summer, it’s not as if I give a fig about the World Cup). This time it’s Bacary Sagna’s agent who has warned us to expect Inter Milan to come calling for the full-back in the summer.

The Daily Mail says the Italians are expected to lose Maicon at the end of the season – the Brazilian has been linked with Real Madrid and Manchester City – and Christophe Mongai believes Sagna is the man Inter boss Jose Mourinho will turn to.

‘If the Nerazzurri were to sell Douglas Maicon it would be just normal for them to sign Sagna,’ Mongai said. ‘In the next transfer window I expect lots of moves in that position. I have been in contact with Inter but nothing serious has been done yet. It is too early. We will talk about it at a later stage.’

Dodgy barnet and all, Sagna, 27, arrived in 2007 and Mongai insists he is happy with the Gunners. He added: ‘I would like to underline that he is happy in London but football is a business and anything could happen.’

Robin van Persie has made himself available for selection as we travel to White Hart Lane for the north London derby tomorrow night, reports the Telegraph. And news of Van Persie’s imminent return has been welcomed by Nicklas Bendtner.

“It will be great to have him (Van Persie) back,” he said. “He had a nasty injury and he has been working really hard in training to get back and if we can have him available for the last games – obviously being out for that long takes a bit of time – but if we can have him available it is a boost for us.”

The same paper carries quotes from Manuel Almunia ahead of the derby. ”It’s a crucial game,” he said. “We have five games and if we drop points we are out of the race. That’s how we have to approach the game against Spurs. We must have in mind if we lose or draw we are out. It’s final.

“I’m convinced that the other two teams (Chelsea and Manchester United) are going to drop points. You have to be convinced that if we win the five games we have a chance to win the title. At Tottenham it’s going to be tougher and harder. Barcelona’s stadium is massive and there are lot of people in the crowd but there is not the same pressure.

“The people are more gentle and they love to watch football and enjoy their team. But the rivalry with Tottenham switches the people on and it’s more serious. The atmosphere is tougher at Tottenham but we have played them many times and we know what to expect.”

Elsewhere off the pitch, the Sun tells us that shareholder Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith wants to sell her shares but the ownership stalemate is set to continue. She should bank £90million for her 15.9 per cent stake although our two biggest shareholders Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov appear unwilling to make a move.

The paper says Bracewell-Smith, who quit the board in 2008, hired bankers Blackstone to sell the fourth-largest holding in the club. Unofficially, she has wanted to sell since last summer. But Kroenke and Usmanov have not moved in as that would require them to make a takeover bid.

US businessman Kroenke, who is on the board, has a 29.98 per cent stake, just below the 30 per cent threshold requiring him to make a takeover bid. Usmanov has a 26.29 per cent share. But Kroenke is backed by director Danny Fiszman, who holds 16.11 per cent, and could take control by buying out Lady Nina.

***Waiting for all the dumbshits to jump on here and start spouting non-sense about how they don’t care if sagna leaves like they did on the arshavin “transfer news”. Thats one of our top squad players along with Arsh and for us to sell them would be a huge mistake. Look what happened after flamini and hleb left, our next season was a throw-away.

Can’t see Sagna leaving us but I WILL BE MORTIFIED IF MAICON GOES TO CITY!!!!!

Maicon is the best RB in the world, he’s absolutely brilliant. I can handle City having Tevez and Ade and all the rest but not someone who is truly world class like Maicon!! (Tho some might say Tevez is world class).

Maicon can’t go to City!!! Go to Real Madrid, anywhere but the PL!

    I am fine with:

Frey (Fiorentina – GK) – for his GK experience in Italy OR Stekelenburg (Ajax & Netherlands – GK)

Alderweireld (Ajax & Belgium – CB) & Kjaer (Palermo & Denmark – CB)

    Hazard (Lille & Belgium – AM/Winger) or Jovetic (Fiorentina & Montenegro – AM/Winger)

Chamakh (Bordeaux & Morocco – ST) or another striker (Llorente – Bilbao & Spain – ST) or Ibisevic (Hoffenheim & Bosnia – ST)

    joining us this summer.

hey i”ve an idea lets destabilize sagna the day before the spurs match.. you know the rb that made the cross which led to the first goal last time we played them?

of course we have all muttered about his crossing ability generally but that one was special!!!! and he and eboue seem to have the rb covered pretty well.

I agree this is a player to keep and continue to groom. Im not sure rb is where we leak oil in our back line.
And if our back line needs anything it is stability right now.

harper, If Maicon, or any other ‘World Class’ player goes to City, it will show them as not ‘World Class’. They will be going for the money.

Chelsea at their peak couldn’t get the truly world class players, so I don’t think City will. 200K a week after tax may put some doubt in their mind though.

Nice one Phil. Why not just go to his agents house and ‘do him’. He is the one spouting his mouth off.

Anyone read what Messi said regarding him coming to the premier league?!

“Will I play in the Premier League one day? I have said that I want to be at Barcelona for life,” he said. “I will be here for as long as they want me.
“I owe Barcelona more than for giving me a chance – I owe them for changing my life.”

I just WISH that one day someone in that Arsenal outfit will one day say that everytime they were asked by a reporter if they are going to another club…but then again..it’s just a wish…

Would Messi be saying the same if they were not successful?? Of course not.

Even so TJ14 it doesnt matter if your club is bad or not..as long as you are someone who happen to become a great player the second you walked into Arsenal you owe that club for becoming who you are. It’s like clubs are seeing us as ovens they just put a raw cake and when it starts to smell nice they take it out of the oven well Arsenal IS NOT an oven for clubs..it’s a club just like any other…players deserve to show the manager and fans respect because they would be in the bench in their old clubs if it wasn’t for Arsenal…

But sadly we live in a time where….lets face it..money talks..and players walk where the money is and sadly Arsenal will always be seen as an oven club…when the players are prepared they pull them out with promises of fame and glory…That’s just my opinion I dont know how you guys think about this.

TJ, good reply – you’re right of course. Maicon would be crazy to go to City — unless all he’s interested in is money.
