Citeh! And The Return Of Greedybayor

man-city-vs-arsenal

Tomorrow we’ll have the return on Emmanuel Adebayor to the Grove in a game we need three points BIG STYLE in the take the pressure off. Like most Gooners I became completely disaffected with his capricious, greedy attitude.

Having allowed his name to be constantly floated in connection with a move to Milan his “loyalty” was rewarded with a big new contract. Having had a great attitude on the field when he first came – I remember particularly him coming on as a substitute at home against Portsmouth and being a BIG part of us pulling out a draw after being two down at half time, as much with his “let’s have a go at them” attitude as his play – his attitude in the last season reeked of Bertie Big Potatoes. Most Gooners of my acquaintance were glad to see the back of him last summer.

That said the reaction he got from some of the Gooner Nation at Eastlands this season was over the top, indeed verged on racism from some. By all means give him the bird. Racism has no place whatsoever at Arsenal (or anywhere else for that matter). I remember coming out of a game last season, walking along Hornsey Road I encountered a half dozen African Gooners speaking in their native language (I don’t know which one I’m afraid), all of a sudden they burst (in English) into the song, “Greedybayor! Give him eighty grand and he’ll just want more!” Class! Made me laugh anyway.

I hope that Kolo Touré gets a good reaction tomorrow. He never gave less than his very best for us, even when he wasn’t playing that well. I’ll always remember his part in The Invincibles team alongside Sol Campbell and his wonderful game, again alongside Campbell, in the Stadio delli Alpi in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final in Turin against Juventus in 2006. It’s unlikely that Sylvinho will play due to injury but he deserves a good reception too if he puts in an appearance. He was a good servant for us. His sudden departure was connected with doubts over his status as a European Union dual national rather than his ability, form or attitude. Tellingly he was registered by Celta Vigo as Brazilian rather than as an EU national.

For us our usual injury woes continue. Andrey Arshavin is out apparently but Alex Song may just make it after a late fitness test. We need all the help we can get at the moment. We can but hope that we manage more tactical discipline than we displayed last week at Wigan.

Keep the faith!

    @ Vic Crescit,

I’m gutted I couldn’t get a ticket to tomorrow’s game because I would’ve loved to have given Vieira and Toure a well deserved round of applause for their wonderful services to our great club over the years. Vieira was a superb captain, whilst Toure always gave 100% in every game he competed in.

The lasting memory I will always have of Toure is before every game, he would run up to the crowd and applaud them just before kick-off. Kolo Toure, number 5, Legend! I miss him.

If you haven’t already, you should check out Patrick Vieira’s autobiography. It’s an excellent read. He even wrote a chapter in the book, dedicating his hatred for Man United.

Vieira is one of my heroes. Along with Tony Adams, he was a leader of men who on many occasions drove us on to victory. He would never shirk out of any tackle and he wore the armband with great pride.

Vic, can you make sure you give them both an extra show of appreciation for me.

H’mm, I do not why this team (?) could not have gone down in history with Devon Loch! Who remembers the winner of the Grand National that year! The inquisitives can always look for who the winner (?) up on the internet these days. Who on earth was the captain on that dismal day in Wigan, pray tell me. Why did he not give one or two underachievers a clip behind the ear.
As for that former player of ours AT £175K or is it £180K a week now, will he not be a farmed out to Notts County when Torres joins the Man Citeh? Or better still given an early retirement to the Hottentots.

Strong rumours abound that Juventus are prepared to offer Buffon and Melo in exchange for Robin van Persie. If we can convince Juve that RvP is not as tall as previously thought and that he speaks with a Russian accent I’d have no problem with the swap.
