Wenger wants squad settled early

wenger2

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger intends to have his summer transfer business concluded sooner rather than later – and has warned it would be “dangerous” to buy a player just because they are a hit at the World Cup.

The Gunners are set to finish third following another campaign which promised so much, yet has failed to delivery a trophy for the fifth successive year.

Wenger accepts “one or two” additions are needed to help turn the undoubted potential of youth into a side capable of staying the distance. However, he maintains he is not about to splash out on new talent unless he is absolutely certain they can add the extra quality needed to his squad – whatever happens on the world’s biggest stage in South Africa this summer.

“With the season drawing to a close, people are inevitably looking to discuss our transfer targets,” said Wenger. “I do have targets and have been talking to people, but I cannot mention any names at the moment. What I can say is that the World Cup will not affect our recruitment, unless there is an exception that nobody could foretell.”

Wenger maintained: “In my view it is dangerous to buy on the back of a World Cup – for one thing the prices afterwards are always artificial, and for another you have to bear in mind that anyone can have three weeks of glory on a football field. To have 10 years of success is quite different.

“All told, I believe that the earlier you settle your teams for the next season, the better it is and the less anxiety you have.”

Lets hope its true but I for one am skeptical. This usually means he’ll sign one player early and then wait until the final day to do the rest of the business and if it doesn’t work then he’ll say he’s happy with the players we have.

Interesting quotes from Arshavins agent. He says some stuff about Arshavin staying depends on Wenger staying and then he says this:

“I know Andrey is never thinking twice before opening his mouth,” said Lachter. “But by the rules of democracy, anybody can say whatever they want and there is some kind of disappointment [from Andrey] because of his injuries and frustration at the results of the club this season.”

Never heard an agent tell his client not to talk in the press about possible transfer moves.

    Then he said:
“It is totally unfair to blame your team-mates. In the eyes of each one of us you need to do the best for your company or your team.

“You shouldn’t be prostituting yourself or changing your mind because you don’t like what is happening today.”

Bit of a telling off for Andrey from his long term agent.

Mourinho, hate the bastard but the man is a clever Manager and a true serial Winner!

Lets hope the club makes some significant signings without quibbling over few pennies here and there and get back to winning some trophies!

If Mourinho is the future of football then the game we all love has no future.

He put out a team that resorted to every time wasting tactic in the book as well as diving, simulating injuries in an effort to get opponents booked or sent off.

The totally negative tactics were reminiscent of teams like Stoke, Hull etc. ie park the bus on the goal line. Obviously he didn’t entirely waste his time at Chelsea as he picked up a few useful tactics.

If his team are instructed to play the same way in the final I, for one, will not bother to watch it.

Let’s just forget the so called “Special One” label there’s nothing special about coaching a team to cheat.

As to Arshavin’s agent and his comments…what precisely does he mean when he says “It would take a dramatic event for Andrei not to end his career at Arsenal”. Does he mean that unless he’s awarded a dramatic improvement in his contract he will end his career at Arsenal by P*****g off to Barca. Or does he mean that Arshavin must be dramatically sacked to prevent him keeping his snout in the trough untill his contract expires along with his career.

And the Mourinho loving press keep going on about tactical brilliance. I could have come up with those tactics. he is a very good motivator and organiser but there was nothing special about that tactically.

To be fair barca are just as bad when it comes to diving and faking injuries. The difference was that it wasn’t their only tactic.

After watching last night’s “entertainment” it became apparent that Wenger is not the only manager without a “Plan B”

db10, I agree Barca resorted to a few cheating moves as well, but then don’t all teams seem to do this more and more.

For me it spoils the game entirely, I’m sick to death of the cheating, diving, time wasting and injury feigning.

Equally I’m sick of the sports writers and commentators who totally fail to condemn the players and managers guilty of ruining football.

Arshavin sacked Lachter long ago and it was public but the latter disagree and says hes still under agent contract. The guy from Israel wants to capitalize on any pee story relating to Arshavin… but hes no one.

    Couldn’t agree more JIN.

I know that they’re different because they are much slower stop start games but to think that snooker and golf players call their own fouls… I think recently there was a snooker player who lost a match as a result of him admitting that he had fouled when the referee had missed it.

For whatever reason it has become normal for footballers to actively try and decieve the referee and generally be unsporting.

What the wise does at the beginning, the fool does at the end!!!! This would have been our easiest season if we had bought at least two players(striker and DM) during the january transfer window. AW can as well not allow the players to go for summer break, it doesnt really matter anymore because the pain and fustrations of this season, cannot be swept under the carpet as if nothing happened.

our team is the best in the premiership!
the coach just needs to consolidate them with a few additions in the defence and mid field. With persie around I am happy with the striking line
