And AW adds in the Sun: “When you are at Arsenal, you are at Arsenal. When you are somewhere else, you are somewhere else. I believe that your pride makes you defend your club. But I take with a little bit of distance what comes back translated sometimes with the help of some agents who want to move the players.”
So someone in Russia is trying to make a few rubles from engineering a move for Arshavin, and his remarks have been lost in translation, or certainly twisted. Fair enough. Shit happens. That’s why Arshavin must come out with a statement declaring his desire to stay with us and committing to a new deal. If not, he can do one. No one player is bigger than the club and if his recent body language in the games that he has played is anything to go by we wouldn’t be missing that much if he did leave. Granted, he is a talent. An exceptional talent. But talent without desire is no good to anyone.
Elsewhere in today’s rags, AW has admitted he needs to strengthen the squad and it seems Marouane Chamakh’s arrival is set to be officially confirmed once the Morocco striker’s contract with Bordeaux expires in the summer. Of his intentions, AW says: “I will try to do what I want to do as quickly as possible, but it does not only depend on me. Certainly, we will announce one player before the World Cup, but after that we will see. I believe in the squad I have and if I can make an addition to the squad – two or three maximum – then we will do it.”
Looking ahead (if we must) to the Blackburn game and it would appear that we will be without Arshavin, who remains a doubt because of a calf problem.
The Mail says Denilson is also out with a groin injury and Manuel Almunia’s wrist means he is still unavailable. On a positive note, Kieran Gibbs and Johan Djourou are back in training after long injury lay-offs, but are not expected to feature at Ewood Park.
