Depressed beyond tablets, gone beyond pills

by CARL ELDRIDGE I see reclusive North Korean leader Kim Jong Il is looking well. And on to the Arsenal where it’s a case of good news and bad news this morning after that shambles against Even Fatter Than Before Sam Allardyce’s mob of brutes. The good news is that we only have one game left in which to snatch a point and secure third spot in the Premier League and thus avoid the Champion League qualifiers. The bad news is that we only have one game left in which to snatch a point and secure third spot in the Premier League and thus avoid the Champion League qualifiers. And yes I know that we could do it by default come Wednesday when City play T********.

But it comes to something when next up we are at home to Fulham and you can’t confidently predict that we will get a draw let alone win. Yes, Fulham have the Europa Cup final ahead of them three days after the visit the home of football. Yes, Woy Hodgson will probably rest key players. And no, we don’t have the stomach for a fight as was so demonstrably evident yesterday at Ewood Park so we can’t take any possible comfort from the fact that Fulham will be under strength.

From the starting eleven yesterday I can think of only five players who I would keep at the club let alone make the starting line-up. They are Sagna, Eboue, Campbell, Nasri and Van Persie. When former Notts County pensioner Sol Campbell is one of your best players you have to question the fortitude of his team-mates. And the manager — if Arshavin is fit enough to be on the bench then why not start him?
It was a similar scenario at the DW/JJB/Springfield Park with RVP. Arshavin hasn’t even got the argument that he wants to stay fit for the World Cup. Diaby and Walcott have undeniably got bundles of talent but lack desire and at the top level that is so crucial. If AW can get a quid for the both of them he should take it.

And so we trudged out of the ground and to the nearest alehouse. To stand in a pub after the game and be mocked by f****** Blackburn fans and not have any answer to their colourful invective centered on ‘soft’ and ‘southern’ tells its own story. The clog-wearing imbeciles were dressed as smurfs for Christ’s sake. They did take some time out of berating us to have the odd dig at their Lancashire chums Burnley and their relegation but soon re-focused and rounded the abuse off with a rendition of the AW song that dare not speak its name.

And still we couldn’t muster an argument. Well, we could have especially with that last song but the locals were restless and outnumbered us and we had a six hour drive ahead of us…’go figure’ I believe is the modern parlance.

The away end said a lot, too. We have a fair smattering of Monkey Arsenal (northerners) who usually make up the numbers when we are north of Watford and ensure we have a decent turnout (witness Wigan) but we couldn’t sell all our tickets for this one. As well as the players giving up, it seems the fans have to. And can you blame them? Ho hum, there is always next season. Haven’t we said that before?

*The backpage round-up has been suspended today under medcial advice. Depressed beyond tablets, I’m gone beyond pills, as Half Man Half Biscuit would say.

The thing that bugs me the most is this mentality that Wenger has bred into our players, it’s the mentality of as long as we play attractive football it doesn’t matter if we win or not. It’s been a sucsessfull season aslong as we have finished in the top 4 and been dumped out of the champions league at some stage. It’s ok to piss about with the FA cup.

I remember Nasri coming out a few months ago saying “we dont get enough credit for the football we play” i wanted to slap him and tell him in 10 years time nobody will remember the football you play but they will remember the things you have failed to win.

Anyone who thinks Wenger is going to go on a shopping spree this summer is deluded the striker we are already getting is some joker on a free transfer and the rest will probably follow suit.

A better post than most this morning. Some ridiculous calls to sack Wenger from a certain blog.

All I ask from my fellow gooners is a bit of distance! We were a few wins from the title this year, honestly.

Yes a bit of plastic surgery in the summer. Chamakh no doubt, will give us balance up top, a solid goalkeeper (obviously) and a Top centre back. That would stand us in perfect stead ahead of next season.

Looks like St. Totteringham’s day is a little late this year …. How we still get one next year but on what I’ve seen over the last several days I’m not convinced that the players even care.

I was frustrated beyond measure yesterday and I had to keep reminding myself that it is only football so i don’t loose my sanity.

I could not understand why Wenger is so stubborn , why he refuses to see reason, why he keeps making rubbish selections, why he keeps underestimating teams and the importance of every game, why he has lost his spark.

I am not a trained coach but I still knew yesterday’s selection was rubbish.
Why not start Arshavin if he is fit , why not play Ebue where he is most effective (right), why play Vela in a game that could have made third place a sure thing, why think you can beat Blackburn with an under strength team, why can’t Wenger change tactics in between games when things are not going well.

All those questions was constantly on my mind during yesterday’s game , I hope you will understand why I had to remind myself that it is only football.

God I’m dpressed! What a shambles yesterday was and yet mr wenger blames all but himself and the clown prince of keepers!

  • db10

and where were Song, Bendtner, Rosicky and Clichy? they weren’t on the injury list but didn’t even make the squad.

we are so crap and WENGER is to blane eitehr he buys decent players or time for him to go. No doubt we are just team that plays good football!!!

The Game we lost yesterday is a joke, and also the players have lost their focus and can’t be bothered. Get rid of walcott, edurdo, rocky, and the whole defence.

  • im

hey mate Joshhh- i dont agree! we are not a few games away from the title. Losing ninc games this year.

  • FredupGooner

“We have a young team that will improve”
thats from Arsene Wenger in 2006!

Keep the faith & in the meantime keep taking the pills!!!!

Wenger has only succeeded in making a fool of himself and his football ideaology. He didnt need to wait to be embarrassed out of his football philosophy before dumping it. Now even the dumest guy on the face of the earth knows that the way forward for Arsenal is to buy quality and sell some of this crazy set of players who donot deserve to play in the championship. If AW fails to buy at least 6(two defenders, one goalkeeper, one DM and 1 ofensive midfield players and 1 top class striker)quality players for next season, then the FANS should boycout the first 10 games of next season. I believe the FANS are even more powerful than the board if we decide to maximise our potentials! So wake up fellow GUNNERS, lets do this for the LOVE of our club.

  • Sanjo-london

Oh! by the way can anybody going to the Fulham game at the emirates put up a big sign that reads:
    WENGER PLEASE SIGN BUFFON!

  • IndianGunner

Probably we should sign Samba from blackburn.Strong and tall ,an ideal partner for Vermelean. If we do that, then next time when we face black burn,we might beat them..

  • Berg10

Ah, but Wenger will say we have improved, but let’s consider this season has been talked about as the one where our main opponents have been so inconsistent and slightly flattered us.

  • Danish Gooner

How can we annihilate them at home and then struggle like some third rate pub team away,it is in the head and the missing pride.

  • king gooner

please do not refer to northern supporters of arsenal as “monkeys”-there is huge support for arsenal throughout the uk & indeed the world-i myself am from london living in n.ireland-the arsenal fans here are every bit as pasionate about arsenal(maybe more so!)than us & spend good deal more following THEIR club-like it or not it’s a global game now-i for one am v.proud that no matter where i travel there are gooners-LONG LIVE THE GOONER EMPIRE!!

  • Guildford

By what point will you start to smell the coffee when we haven’t signed a ‘solid goalkeeper’?
