The curtain has fallen, the echoes of the last hurrahs have faded and we find ourselves adrift on a sea of red and white scarves as the good ship Arsenal steers a lonesome path towards next season. So says the arsenalinsider.com podcast which is available to listen to now.
It’s our seventh offering and also in this broadcast you can hear an exclusive-ish Q&A with Marouane Chamakh, who is on his way to the Arsenal on a Bosman free transfer from Bordeaux, in which he reveals his pre-match meal, his unusual hobbies and lifts the lid on the team he supported when he was growing up. We also bring you news that our new hitman grew up in France, plays for Morocco because of his parents but was actually born in Bedfordshire! (Not really).
There is also a look at the various bits and bobs of transfer gossip doing the rounds today, including the tale that Jack Wilshere is seemingly wanted by Newcastle United for a season-long loan. Wilshere, of course, was at Bolton for a successful stint last season, and it seem that newly-promoted Geordies want his services as they make their way back to the top flight.
We also touch on the fact that we scooped arsenal.com in bringing you exclusive news of our friendly in Poland against Legia Warsaw to make the opening of their new ground, and a mention of a rare friendly game against Barnet of all teams. It seems we are going to play them on July 17 at Underhill. A rare fixture indeed!
There is also a little peak at the big game tonight…no, not the Arsenal Dorises versus Leeds Carnegie, the Europa Cup final between Fulham and Atletico Madrid in Hamburg, I for one will be cheering on celebrated quiffster Woy Hodgson and his Cottagers for the night and if they win they will cement their place as one of London’s big clubs by claiming a Euro Trophy. My pecking order is 1, Arsenal, 2, West Ham, 3, Fulham, 4, QPR, 5 Palace, 6, Orient, 7, Charlton, 8, Millwall, 9 Brentford, 10 Crystal Palace. Er, that’s it.
Incidentally, I see that another player who could arrive at the Emirates ahead of next season is Lyon’s defensive midfielder Jeremy Toulalan. He is 26, has been included in the France World Cup squad, and has CL experience and is seemingly available for £14m. Time will tell…
