FTK Blog: Cesc Ignore your father and listen to your head!

cesc

For once I am totally confused… some of you may say I am always confused. I am very bemused by what is being presented by John Cross of the Daily Mirror which is clearly the party line from Ashburton Grove. The Daily Mirror congratulates Arsene Wenger and Arsenal Football Club for their dignified stance of silence, as compared with the tapping up crescendos coming from Barcelona, through the media, the officials and now even the players. But then Mr Cross goes on to say that there is nothing that Arsenal can complain about to FIFA, and apparently told Barcelona immediately that Cesc was not for sale at any price. Barcelona in return clearly didn’t hear those words or more likely it is almost as if they are saying to FIFA, “you cannot charge us all for talking about a player contracted at another club, try it if you dare.”

Apparently Mr Fabregas Senior said on Radio Marca the following, which is translated courtesy of the Daily Mirror and the full transcript can be found here.

“Barca have said not to listen to anyone else that is not Barca. That means that evidently there are other clubs that are interested and would not have the difficulty that Barca would have to pay the amount that Cesc would currently cost. To avoid that he wanted to clarify that he will only either stay at Arsenal or go to Barca.”

So if Barcelona have indeed spoken to the player, (Mr Fabregas didn’t actually confirm this), All he has quoted was the content from BArca but not to whom it was delivered. Does this mean that we should charge Mr Fabregas with tapping up? Maybe so, his role in these events needs to be scrutinised and his motives questioned. I recall seeing the domineering way that the parents put down Cesc on the Fabregas TV show. It was cold and gave me the impression that they didn’t want Cesc thinking that he was something special and not any better than they themselves thought of him. The parallels with the father of the late Michael Jackson springs to mind. I actually feel that Cesc’s father is the real destabilising factor in this affair.  Sons often hold their Fathers in positions of the highest esteem, they are often revered, respected and seldom ignored. So why I ask myself is Mr Fabregas being protrayed as doing the propaganda work for FC Barcelona? Perhaps in the fullness of time we will know, but until then his intervention is quite unhelpful.

So perhaps this is where it gets silly.  Why is there  silence from UEFA’s Michel Platini over the regular tapping up rituals by the Spanish giants? These activities are often  conducted prior to Presidential campaigns.  I suppose this might have something to do with the important regulatory meeting in Switzerland today when Clubs hoping to participate in future Champions League will have to vote on how to soften the blow of the financial requirements of only spending what you actually earn. If this measure is to be passed, then Platini will require the grudging consent of Barcelona and Real Madrid, teams that will be penalised most heavily by the new regulations as opposed to the intended targets of Man Utd and Chelsea in the English Premiership.

If as it seems that today Cesc may well be staying at Arsenal, then I am every happy even though it makes me looks like quite a prat for having blogged about his likely departure yesterday. But FTK is not one to hide when he gets things wrong. Those of you who want to enjoy shoving it down my throat (humble pie – that is…lol) then enjoy doing it while you can. Whilst I am tempted to breathe a sigh of relief, I just wonder if my annoyance about the way that our great football club makes it’s statements is perhaps still valid. If Arsenal have told Barcelona to politely and firmly to go away and not come back, might it not have aided their resolve if they published that version on the club’s own website? Why exclude the fans? Why allegedly brief the tabloids in advance of the shareholders? More importantly why hasn’t anyone told Cesc Fabregas the player of what was said in no uncertain terms to FC Barcelona? Who ever is the source within the camp Emirates which enabled John Cross to write his articles, then they must either be in the know and quite high up, or of course they are talking out of their backsides. You choose.

All I can do is put my take on matters. Barcelona cannot afford Cesc Fabregas at his current valuation as acknowledged by the player’s father.  Cesc  must now make a choice if he is going to be truly loyal to Arsene Wenger and to the Club and the fans who love him.  Arsenal Football Club for their part must be very careful  NOT to allow a Greedy Bayor mark II scenario to occur. If they are minded for once make a complaint to UEFA about tapping up of our best player, then let it be known NOW that they are considering it through the same sources that briefed Mr Cross.  Anything less will lead bystanders to think that their transfer strategy is being handled in anything BUT the Arsenal way. The impression would be given that they only want to fund the transfer of new players required at the club through the sale of Cesc Fabregas, and would suggest that they have in fact been negotiating covertly but have not been able to agree a price. Certainly not the stance of a Club intending to hold onto their best player at all costs, which is why I disagree with Mr Cross. So this is the time for the official statement of intent on the official site, not silence. Cesc is under contract at Arsenal Football Club for the next five years… END OF!

If Fabregas leaves the Emirates after the world cup, he will lose out on an unrivalled opportunity to be the architect of Arsenal’s return to greatness. An accolade that will guarantee that his name is sung loudly for the next three generations of Arsenal fans. A living legend in our time. But as one excellent comment from an Insider on the site put it today. Cesc has been a very silly boy, he has had his head turned, and now perhaps some might conclude that his future is being decided by his Father and the Presidential lobbyists of Barcelona. So instead Cesc should be saying no comment about the transfer rumours, and I remain an Arsenal player and its captain! Why should he need Arsene Wenger to tell him to be focused on the World Cup? His head must tell him that he would not like to exit the club like one Togalese before him.  I really don’t know what the truth is or how this saga will finish, but I hope that Cesc listens to reason and the prospect of true greatness at Arsenal rather than hanging on the coat tails of an established trophy machine at Barcelona founded upon obscene spending policies.

So Cescgate continues…YAWN. Join me again next Cesc week on this Cesc Channel, oh, and don’t touch that dial Cesc fans.

FTK, I spoke about why Cesc is undervalued so much by Barca, and I guess what you say is true, they can’t afford him. Why? Because they spent £40 mil on Ibrahimovic who they have now replaced with David Villa. Obviously Villa was more important to them than Cesc and only because they ballsed up spending so much on Ibra.

This is why Cesc should understand how he could be leaving such an amazinf position which he possess for people who seem to have brainwashed his own dad. If he stays next season I would never treat him like Adebayor, he isn’t a cock, but I think my love for him will have fallen away, and I’ll probably applaud him modestly rather than cry out his name!

    Great piece mate!

FTK sleep soundly until Spain are out of the World Cup!
At La Cuidad del Fútbol de Las Rozas, no lurking Daily Mirror or in particular The Sun, reporters are required.
Fernando Hierro (Sports Director) and Vicente del Bosque (Coach and NOT Manager) of Spain have dictated to both Cesc Fabregas (ARSENAL) and David Silva (VALENCIA) to honour their contracts and their clubs Or leave. In Spanish of course and in words of that effect.
You are not wrong and until Spain are out of the World Cup, your nose will be rubbed in the slime that is in charge of FC Barcelona until the end of June at least.
Enjoy your mojitas and the World Cup football.

    Cheers Jimbo,
I am only following on your good work of earlier.
    :-)

What will make me mad however, is if Fabs does eventually leave our club under a cloud, when he has been MR ARSENAL for all to see.
If half the hangers on and also ran squad players put in half the effort he did, we would have won the Premiership this season.
Oh and We should get rid of Arshavin and keep CARLOS VELA!!!

What is yr view on that JimC?

I’m in the middle with Arshavin, only because I’ve never seen him as a high energy player (which seems to get him stick, and perhaps rightly so) but mroe of a player who preys on a good chance. His finishing was woeful at the end of the season, but I think he is one who needs a good kick up the arse. By who? Anyone with power in their legs, maybe Kyle Bartley. Or just buy Hangeland for this purpose only.

On Vela, I like him, but I’d only consider playing him if he goes back to chipping keepers, and not hitting Rob Green in the chest. All that was missing on Monday was the Charlie V chipady chip!

I enjoyed reading this though I must disagree on one point. Arsenal’ return to greatness can only be achieved if Wenger buy the players needed, to make Cesc happy that we are ambitious to win things, rather than the PR nonsense we keep getting from Wenger.

Nevertheless, this is the first article that really looked into the meddling Cesc senior. What do you think about Cesc’ public comments ?

” Sometimes I am more loved at Arsenal than in my household !”

He clearly is not happy about certain things happening in the Fabregas houehold is he.

I think he will stay one Barca dont have the money to buy him and two the betting paterns the odds on him staying are now shortening meaning the bookies have had the nod.
Maybe Wenger has told him that he is going to sign Joe Hart,a couple of world class center backs Mascarano and Torres

Lets be honest, Cesc has not been tapped up, he wants to go because Arsenal are not good enough, Fab is hardly going to tell Wenger which players are not good enough to play for Arsenal, but we know.

If we hold out for Cescs full worth, Bwont buy and we are left with a player that does not believe in the team, without his transfer, we do not have enough money to buy what is needed, as we have seen, we need to wait for a free transfer to get a striker!

Sell him now, or we face the same problem we had when we declined to sell henry for £50 mill one year earlier and got poor performance from him.

This is what I’ve been wondering:

LaPorta is about to leave the office of president. For yrs he’s been obsessed with bringing back Cesc because he’s had to deal with years of criticism from within the club for having “lost” Cesc to Arsenal. So he’s determined to get back Cesc as part of his legacy as he leaves the presidency, which is (I think) this summer.

So… did Cesc’s sudden urgency in leaving come from (at least in part) LaPorta’s camp telling Cesc’s parents “look, it’s now or never, he’s got to come back this summer because my successor won’t be so interested in getting your son back to the club.” Does Cesc believe (erroneously) that he may not be able to return to Barca after LaPorta leaves?

As to your belief that Cesc is making a mistake and will miss out on bringing Arsenal back to its greatness…well, FTK, forgive me if I have serious doubts about such grandiose claims. Cesc can’t be blamed at all if he doubts them as well.

Good point harper, and Laporta’s vice president who is running for his job actually said at one point Cesc isn’t a priority for him, so maybe that’s where Laport, and your view, becomes real.

If I was Laporta leaving my current job, fuck that I’d be working hard in my last days, I’d be doing as little as possible in my notice period and call everybody a twat on the way to the lift.

i wasnt real madrid to bid for fabregas atleast 50m. cesc would refuse but then barca would have to raise the stakes in order to get cesc. as they dont have enough money or wont spend that much as a result we get to keep cesc. wish

    @ FTK

I have always been a believer in that if a player doesn’t want to play for Arsenal anymore, the club should get rid of the player ASAP and gain a substantial fee from the paying club.

He has been a tremendous player for us, but his heart is simply not with the club anymore. The club should also make moves to strip him of his captaincy with immediate effect, when the first sign of transfer talks are commenced (I really hope that the captaincy is given to Vermaelen and not Van Persie.)

He will always be an Arsenal legend in my eyes. It’s a shame that he will leave the club with only the FA Cup in his collection.

I probably get slated for this, but Cese can leave Arsenal for all i care, he has shown his true colours, used Arsenal as a stepping stone, learnt his trade and now he wants to leave. Arsenal should sell him, there is no point in trying to keep him when his heart doesn’t belong here. I can’t believe what I’ve been reading on the net, comment from Arsenal fans that we wish Cesc all the best…bla bla bla he’s a legend… what a load of tosh. He’s defiantly no fkkkin legend for Arsenal….., he is a little shit who used us….don’t want to see this guy in an Arsenal shirt ever again the little mercenary

If Barca want Fabs that bad then they need to show it and dig reeeal deep. If he goes for any less than £40 mil then we’ve been done, simple as.

As much as I hate to say it I’m not too bothered any more. It’s always been on the cards and hasn’t left the headlines for the last 3 years. Cesc leaving is an inevitability. It really doesn’t make a difference if we hang on to him for another season – he’ll be gone the next. And I don’t blame him. Why???

    1. He’s Spanish!!!
    2. The lack of tangible ambition at AFC
    3. Zero silverware

I don’t want to see him go. But WHEN (not if) he does I won’t hold a grudge. I’ll be wishing him all the best. The guys is utter class and his contribution to our club has been immense in the extreme.

I’M MORE CONCERNED WITH WHAT FTK’S GOING TO DO ABOUT HIS NAME!!!
