The kit has hit the fan! By that we mean that the new Arsenal away kit has been ‘revealed’ today but, of course, regualr visitors to this site will have known exactly what it looks like because we scooped the world with the details and a mock-up picture back in February.
It’s not the first time we have led the way in revealing what our new kits are going to be like. We did it again with news of the white kit.
And a picture we have seen this morning of the new home kit would suggest that we were right again when we announced that the club would revert to a traditional red and white-sleeved home shirt, a retro design based on the classic shirt from the early 1970s.
The blurb with the official pictures says the away kit and its redcurrant stripes and cuff sleeves are a throwback to the Woolwich Arsenal days, while on the reverse of the badge is stitched the motto ‘Victoria Concordia Crescit’.
The shirt is also made from recycled polyester, using up to eight plastic water bottles, as part of Nike’s ‘Considered Design’ programme.
And there is press speculation this morning that we have stepped up their efforts to keep Cesc Fabregas from moving to Barcelona by releasing pictures of him wearing the new away shirt.
Various paper say the Spanish giants have offered Arsenal £25 million for their midfield playmaker, but we ‘are determined to keep him’. But he remains under contract until the summer of 2015 and AW is ready for the fight to keep him.
He has made it clear that, as far as he is concerned, the 23-year-old Gunners captain will still be in the Arsenal midfield next season.
‘What is important is that Cesc has a great World Cup and what is also important is that he comes back to Arsenal and has a great desire to do well for the club,’ Wenger said. ‘We want to keep our best players, that is my huge determination.
‘I have built this team for years, from 16-17 years of age with most of the players, and we want to continue to work with them because we feel they are very close and the team has many strengths in many ways.’
Let’s hope we see him the new away kit next season…
