Arsenal fixtures 2010/11: First game Liverpool away

emirates2
by CARL ELDRIDGE Arsenal will play Liverpool away in the opening game of the 2010/11 Premier League season on August 14. We kick off our campaign’s opening home game against newly promoted Blackpool. Our Boxing Day fixture is Chelsea at home. We play Fulham away on the last day of the season. We play Chelsea at Shit Bridge on October 2.

The first North London derby will be at home on November 20 and we will visit Shite Hart Lane on February 26. AW and the boys go to Old Trafford on December 11 and return fixture will take place on April 30.

Remember all of these fixtures are subject to change once the TV bods have their say and switch everything around. But it gives us a guide to who we have got when, even if we can’t book the train just yet in case the game is moved. Check back soon for more comment and reaction.

Meanwhile newspaper reports this morning suggest we are in for £20million-rated Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil. The papers say AW has earmarked the 21-year-old as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas.

Original Wenger valuation (allegedly) £10m so I can’t see him paying double and competing against the sugar daddy brigades of West London and Mancunia.

Don’t want to be pessimistic but I’ve never been so underwhelmed by a start to a season. It would be a mistake to try and keep Fabregas … his heart is elsewhere. Better to have a clean break. We had a mountain to climb anyway but with Fabregas gone its just become Mount Everest. mark my words and I hope I’m proven wrong but our fight next season will be to stay in the Top 4. Forget about winning the EPL. Wenger needs to bring in class and experience but I’m afraid its same old, same old … he’s hunting for bargains with scope for development. He needs to go! if he does not change his ways since I’m sick to back teeth with it and our lack of trophies for 6 long patient years.

In fairness we don’t know what Arsene’s plans are and if we did, so would the other clubs and inflate player prices.

It will be more of a battle for ALL the top teams next season but I’d like to think we’re progressing in the right direction, it has taken a few years and it may well take a few more but we need to be patient, look how quickly Liverpool dropped a long way out of the top four and they weren’t exactly frugal.

It was inevitable that every top club in England would be linked with him because so far he is the only player to have impressed other than Forlan. Anyway I have changed my mind and I don’t think that Cesc is going to leave this summer. But thats just a guess and I really don’t have any more information than anyone else outside of Wenger, Gazidis, Cesc and the barca tw*ts.

Anyway soon Arsenal will be linked with Elia because he will play well for holland and he’s young and not very well known. It doesn’t mean we’re actually interested.

I’m getting bored of waiting for us to sign a centre back. We know we will have to sign at least 2 but preferably 3 new centre backs so I don’t know what they are waiting for. Every summer we make the mistake of trying to get a better deal and waiting right to the end of the window and often don’t clinch the deal. This time, why can’t we just get some players before then?

I think some clubs are playing hardball, i.e. we have upped our bid on Kocieny apparently but it looks like they are holding the process up despite the player requesting a transfer to Arsenal. Of course, this is mostly paper talk so whether we should believe it or not is another matter.
I’d like to think we are trying to get some quality in as we seem to be linked to a lot of players if reports are accurate.

Forlan has looked good in both matches so far, he links up all over and as we saw yesterday weighs in with some goals.

I trust Arshavin’s feet have been toughened up so that he can play with studded boots. Arshavin prefers to play without spikes! This was the reason last season that he seemed rather listless, because of the problems with his feet.
As regards transfer topics, most of this is generated by the bookmakers, as fools are soon parted from their money. The Spanish press is full of “from the English papers” transfer tittle-tattle.
By the bye, one Spanish blogger rated our No.1 goalkeeper so highly, that he wanted him as the Spanish No.1. I think this particular blogger must be a relative of our Spanish goalkeeper.
