Campbell future still on hold

SolCampbell

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed there is still no decision on the future of veteran defender Sol Campbell.

The former England centre-back made a shock return to the Gunners in January on a short-term deal, which expired at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old is now a free agent and is considering his options having held talks with Celtic while Newcastle boss Chris Hughton has denied weighing up a move for Campbell.

And although the former Tottenham and Portsmouth man has stated he would prefer to agree a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, the matter is yet to be cleared up.

“No, there is no update,” Wenger told the club’s official website.

Wenger has lost the services of former captain William Gallas, whose contract expired this summer, although he is thought to be closing in on a deal for 24-year-old centre-back Laurent Koscielny, who has impressed with French side Lorient.

Campbell, who began last season with an ill-fated spell in League Two with Notts County, feels he still has much to offer having made a strong finish to the campaign with Arsenal.

He was even disappointed to be overlooked for England’s World Cup squad, with Fabio Capello opting to bring Ledley King and Jamie Carragher out of the international wilderness ahead of himself.

Sadly Wenger didn’t deny that Fabregas was leaving nor did he restate the club’s official line “Fabregas is not for sale”.

Mr Fabregas has been with the Barça team now for the last 4 months, on and off. For the World Cup Mr Fabregas has a room mate who will also do his bit for the Project Campus II from the 9th to the 17th July in the Ajuuntament de Tordera. I do not believe Mr Wenger has any chance of changing the decision of Mr Fabregas to join Barcelona FC.
According to the Chairman of Arsenal Holdings Plc, 17 players received enhanced salary packages of £500,000 average per annum, in the current financial year (circa £8 millions/17). Of the £90 millions for salaries, 30/30/30 say for 20-25 first team players, the rest of the players in the Training budget and of course the Stadium and Training Grounds admin staff. These are my estimates by the way, a supporter for over 70 years and only the last month trying to take a forensic look at the Arsenal Holdings Plc financial affairs, very much from the outside!

Depends on who you believe. I came across a few blogs earlier quoting Wenger speaking to journalists, he stated
“Cesc is not for sale no matter what Barcelona offer.”

I saw him last night he did not I don’t want to talk about it as you know AW is working with Al Jazerra sport in the world cup so he did not want to answer the Q last night he even said if he will think about a winger he will think about Chile wingers. last night they said we will ask AW in the end of the game and when they did he said I don’t want to talk about and we will see later these are his words I was waiting for ( He will stay with us ) but he did not say anything, so for me that means (if the right price will come and if we will find a good replacement then we will sale him )
