Barcelona will call a halt to their bid to land Cesc Fabregas if Arsene Wenger asks for €50 million. That’s according to new Barca president Sandro Rosell.
Asked if the three months of speculation that the Gunners captain was on his way back to his boyhood idols Rosell said: ‘Yes, it’s now or never. We’ll try and complete the operation quickly.
‘We won’t draw it out. I’ll try and speak with Wenger in South Africa. We’ll see what happens. If they ask for €50 million we’ll say “goodbye”. If they ask for €30 million we’ll accept.’
Quizzed about the maximum amount of money the Catalans were willing to spend, he added: ‘Yes but I won’t say because that would only help Arsenal in the negotiations. We’ll never pay the €50-60 million that I’ve seen published in the press.
And when Rosell was asked how Fabregas – currently preparing for the World Cup final against Holland in South Africa tomorrow – was handling the situation concerning his on-off switch to Nou Camp, he said: ‘I imagine he’s nervous, I would be too.’
The quotes come from this website, which is reporing an interview Rosell gave to a Spanish newspaper.
Simple then, AW. Ask for the 50 mil!
