The Jack and Cesc Show

jw

by CARL ELDRIDGE I never like anyone to score against us, obviously, so I couldn’t quite manage to applaud Eduardo’s goal last night. That said, it was rather fitting that the Crazilian should net again at the Emirates in a resounding result for the rip-roaring red machine.

As we know, Eddie never really recovered from the broken leg he suffered in 2008 thanks to hatchet man Martin Taylor at Brum. Yet he managed to give the scoreline a slight blemish after coming on as a sub on 63 minutes and scoring Shakhtar’s consolation goal with nine minutes left.

We never looked in trouble against an expansive Ukrainian outfit and AW was beaming afterwards and had special praise for Jack Wilshere and Cesc. He said: “I am convinced Cesc and Jack work well together – Cesc only came back tonight, but Jack has a good maturity level. You would never think he is only 18 from the way he plays and they combine well together.

“Wilshere plays football like he is playing with his mates. He has good technical ability, but he doesn’t hide from challenges. Those are the strengths you don’t want him to lose.

“Is he ready to start for England against France next month? If you asked me the reverse question, that he isn’t ready to start for England, then it would be difficult to say no.

“He’s not a completely holding midfielder, he’s more box-to-box than that. But to be honest, he can play in any position across the midfield, so it’s up to us to give him time and to let him play.

“When you win 1-0 people think it’s too difficult and when you win 5-1 it’s too easy – I think we had a good attitude tonight, but Manchester City is a different type of game.

“We have won our last two home games, so now we can go up there with a good level of confidence and with some certainty in the way we want to behave.

“If you wanted a Donetsk player to score a goal, it would be Eduardo. Everyone here has good feelings for him because everyone knows the player he was when he arrived here and what he went through.”

Congratulations to the Arsenal faithful who welcomed Eduardo to The Emirates and stood to applaud him when he scored.

Congratulations too for the team who put on a good performance and beat our strongest group rivals.

Fabregas, not surprisingly, looked rusty and a bit off the pace, but with an hours football under his belt and seemingly no after effects, he should be much better at the weekend against Manchester City.

    Wilshere was immense!!

    Oh for heavens sake!

On the morning after Arsenal demolish Shakhtar 5 – 1 and virtually guarantee progress into the knock-out stages of The Champions League all you can say is “It’s time to drop Arshavin”.

    Utterly pathetic!!!

I’m laffin today after a stellar offensive performance, a concern in re our, not so much “allowing” Eddy to score but the cross is what troubles me. poor wide pressure there which CANNOT be repeated against PL rivals.
Last point, the crisis in the land of shite aka manure. So the testosterone ladden imp wants away. Obviously, what loyalty would he have to them when he walked away from his home team everton?
He is under orders from the missus. She can’t show her face in England right now! I know the banter about joining cross town rivals but it is a red herring. He is leaving England and the only hope for manure is they get as much for his contract as possible as they have 1 transfer window to make the deal or face the possibility of getting f*ckall for him. Not only is the guy as a human being shite but I think he’s seen his best days as a footballer and the continent will not be kind to him. I think that advert with rooney sitting in a caravan with a beard thinking what if might be his future. the REAL future of the England squad is wils! Rooney blew his chance.

In a statistics list compiled by the Telegraph, Arshavin scores better than any other AFC player. In each category shown 1-10 which is based on the whole of the EPL he is positioned 4th in goal assists, 6th in shots on target, 10th (only AFC player again) in total shots at goal, 6th again in key passes and although he doesn’t make the top ten in successful passes we have Alex Song who you normally slate as the only AFC rep in 9th.

The same stats respectfully show AFC as having the most shots 121 with Chelski 2nd on 119 though they pip us with shots on target (top with 58) to our 53 in 2nd, the same 1 & 2 positions are for goals scored (CFC 23 – AFC 18) and same position again for goal difference so we’re up there together on most of the positives and mostly thanks to AA.

But don’t take my word for it check it yourself

What an absolute load of crap. Rooney would walk into our side, no problem. He is 24 years of age and has his best years ahead of him.

james, I agree with you on this one. Am not saying he should be dropped period. But in my opinion, at the moment, Rosicky gives us more in an all around respect. Arshavin gives us nothing defensively and when he is not on form offensively, as he hasn’t been of late, we are carrying him.

If we have a squad of players all at a high level, people should be picked on merit and at present I don’t think AA should be in the team.
