Samir’s a City slicker

samir-nasri

by CARL ELDRIDGE Cesc Fabregas was given the man-of-the-match award after yesterday’s 3-0 thumping of 10-man Manchester City but there were other more worthy candidates in my opinion. Not that Cesc wasn’t at the heart of everything. For me the honour could have easily gone to Samir Nasri or Marouane Chamakh. Nasri could be a massive player for us this season. And, whisper it, I thought Lucasz Fabianksi had a good game, too.

Good to see Bendy bulge the back of the net as well after his long lay off — except me and Keith didn’t see it as we had legged it by then to catch our flight back to Gatters.

AW was chuffed at the result, naturally. He said: “I’m very pleased because they looked like they have matured. We’ve matured in the sense of negotiating the difficulties of the game in an intelligent way.

“That means not getting a red card, keeping the ball well, being patient when it was needed. Collectively, we completely dominated the game. It was a good performance maybe a little bit under special circumstances. It was important to get a win in a big place, to strengthen the belief of the squad and continue our march forward. We were calm and showed intelligence and put in the performance we needed to put in against 10 men.”

On Nasri he added: “He is becoming more efficient and I think he’s become stronger physically and you judge a player on his numbers. He got a goal and an assist and that’s what you want from a player with a lot of talent like he has. He’s a complete player because he can run with the ball, he’s quick and he’s a clinical finisher now. At 23, your career starts at the top level.”

As for Cesc, he has dismissed the fact that City were reduced to ten men so early. He said: “If there had been 15 versus 11, we still would have won. We played some outstanding football at times and it is very difficult to stop us. We also kept our composure. It’s too early to talk about the title, but Chelsea have still to play the big teams, so we will see how they do.”

Next up: the Geordies away in the Carling (a bit more important to us this season) Cup…

I got it wrong with my prediction, I thought we would win 2 – 1 but we won 3 -0.

    What a great result.

No more thoughts of being bullied, it looks as though this team have at last learned how to stand up for themselves.

Yesterday’s mix of Wengerball and Viera like tackling will send a shudder through the rest of the Premiership sides.

If you want to dish it out, you’ll have to learn take it!!

    1. We won 3-0 away.

    2. We did not let De Jong, Barry and and Yaya bully us in midfield. (with Cesc, Song and Denilson in the team)

    3. Nasri (No.8) and Rosicky (No.7) shall be key players for us this season.

    4. Chamakh is immense.

    5. Good to see Walcott and Bendtner calling on subs with the latter scoring.

u may have a game plan but u only are as good as the other team will let u play, really. thats why we can play good and bad, like every team does. Nasri is even better this year, my favrite player so far this year. anyway long way to go so lets just enjoy it, i say….

It will be really interesting to see how arsene wenger handles the squad when everybody is fit…If walcott comes back to full fitness along with diaby whom will he bench??Also wilshere will be joining after 2 matches….In the last two to three years we never had this problem….Interesting time ahead of us….

I sat in fear for significant stretches. Darn right fabianski was huge. just the first save of the match in the 70 second alone was special. Their RB Richards had his wicked way with Clichy and he could because arshavin was no threat to him going the other way.

City are a team of monsters but in that lies their weakness wherein speed getting behind them really threatened them (City were lucky to have the prior breakaway called back for offside when looked on).

I felt very uncomfortable however with our backline yesterday and sustained pressure could have undone us. Tevez was dangerous and adebayor showed poor tactical discipline which must drive mancini nuts being an italian technocrat.

Bottomline, we have to grow on from this result. It is only a good start and we must defend better. Tommy V’s return will make me feel better and I’m interested to see Gibbs for Clichy on Wednesday.

I don’t want it to seem I was whinging about arshavin as he played a big role but just on the issue of richards rampages and defending against those. He has to drop into the zone which helps contain and team defend and when he doesn’t backline gets isolated.

To correct you on Cescs comment: on his twitter he says that he meant that even if city had 15 players, we still would’ve gone on to fight for the win. Such an arrogant comment as to say that we would’ve won outnumbered by 4 players isn’t Cesc’s style
