It seems we are set to hand a new contract to Samir Nasri, a player who seems to get better and better with each game. Nasri is in the finest scoring form of his career and has been called a ‘complete player’ by AW after his impressive display at Manchester City on Sunday.
The Frenchman has rattled in seven in his last seven games in a period in which he has shone so brightly in the recent absence of Cesc Fabregas. Nasri’s current contract expires in 2012, and the Arsenal board are said to be ready to offer him a two-year extension on improved terms as recognition of his recent progress.
Meanwhile, Nik Bendtner has had his say in the light of his late strike at Eastlands. He said: “It was fantastic to score again. I have waited for that for a long time. I felt we got off to a good start as they had a man sent off and we scored shortly after. All in all, it was a fair result and it was a truly important win for us. It allows us to climb in the standings and it’s always important to beat the other top sides.” Nice one, Bendy boy.
So the Geordies tomorrow in the Carling Cup and JET is in contention for a place in the side.
“I think I can offer something different. There is no-one that plays exactly my style,” he said. “I am a big guy that likes to run with the ball and beat players. I can create chances, I can score goals, I can make goals and the way I see things in the game has become a lot better than it used to be.
“I have got to keep doing it and keep showing that it is not just a one-off. Hopefully the boss will see what I am doing and that I am doing it on a regular basis and hopefully he will give me my chance.
“It is a lot quicker and there is a lot more at risk because in the first team, if you lose too many games you won’t win the league and if you lose in the cup you get knocked out, so there is a lot more to play for,” he added.
