by CARL ELDRIDGE Arsenal fan Carl Eldridge last night sensationally denied he is to quit as an ardent follower of the Gunners after the dismal defeat to T********.
Gutted Eldridge, 46, watched in horror and disbelief from the East Stand as his team threw away a 2-0 lead against would-be Stratford FC to lose 3-2 at the home of football.
It was another bitter loss at the Emirates, where already this season WBA and Newcastle have taken all three points. But defiant Eldridge has come out fighting after rumours swept the game that he was ready walk out on his beloved club.
In an exclusive interview with Arsenalinsider, he revealed: “I am Arsenal through and through and rightly proud to be so. Of course it is a terrible feeling to lose to that lot in the manner in which we did. But do you know what, on the day they had a bit of luck and we had none. We played better football than them and had we taken our chances – as is always the bleedin’ case – we’d all be talking about our title hopes.
“It’s time for a bit of perspective once the caterwauling has ceased. It is the first time they have beaten us at home since 1993 – against a waekend team agead of the FA Cup final. In that time we have won the league title three times. They have not had a sniff of it for 50 years. Yes, I know. FIFTY.
“We can and will bounce back,” added the one-time timber sales office executive. “We have suffered worse defeats than this and come back fighting and we’ll do so again. We are perfectly capable of winning in Braga and then at Villa on Saturday. Sometimes as a fan you have to suspend your disappointment and have blind faith. We have enough detractors without us turning on the club. It is a contract for life. Put the shoe on the other foot. Exactly, you wouldn’t want to be a S**** fan would you? The way they celebrated was embarrassing and shows them up for what they are – *****.
“It’s time to get the bigger picture. Years of majesty. Decades of glory. A century of celebration. I agree that Arsene Wenger has made some mistakes but overall has there been a better manager of the club? (Apart from Bruce Rioch!).
“Remember this, we are Arsenal. No one can ever take that away from us. When ever anyone asks me who I support I give them a quizzical look as if they should know and reply, ‘Arsenal of course.’ The ‘of course’ is significant.
“I urge you this morning to put a smile on your face, a spring in your step and overcome these Monday morning blues. How about reds instead?”
Arsenal, of course…
