Goalscoring extraordinare Bacary Sagna, who has trippled his total goals tally for Arsenal this season, says he has been doing extra work in training to bring more to the Gunners’ attack.
The right-back enjoyed a tremendously successful first season at the Emirates in 2007/08, but had seemed to be going backwards since then, until finally finding his best form again this term.
Sagna has even added goals to his game, scoring two rockets so far this season against Everton and Leeds, and admits the extra training sessions seem to be paying off.
“I was very happy to score yesterday,” he said. “But overall the result was the most important thing as we are still involved in four Cups and we need to keep looking forward.
“I’m staying a bit more to practice my crosses or shooting as I know as a full back I have to be performing defensively but should also be decisive offensively. So if I can assist some goals or even score I will do it.”
The Frenchman’s goal at Elland Road came after a brief spell out of the side due to suspension, and he has apologised to the Arsenal fans for the nature of his three-match ban.
The punishment followed a red card in the recent game against Manchester City, when Sagna lost his cool with City’s Pablo Zabaleta.
On the incident, he explained: “Recently I had some problems, received kicked from Rio Ferdinand, Lee Bowyer but never said anything but now it was just too much. I don’t know why I reacted like this but I should not have reacted like that, should have stayed calm and let it go.
“The suspension was not easy because I didn’t play for two weeks but I had time to think about it. I just want to say sorry to the fans as those are not things to show on the pitch.”
