How to cope with Nasri absence?

alt

With player of the season Samir Nasri confirmed to be out for at least three weeks, Arsene Wenger has had some thinking to do about how to deal with the Frenchman’s absence.

Nasri is Arsenal’s top scorer this season with 14 goals, and the natural back-up for the left-sided role, Andrey Arshavin, is horribly off-form at the moment.

The manager has hinted that Nicklas Bendtner could fill in on the left, and today added that he might be tempted to recall some of his currently on-loan players.

The likes of Aaron Ramsey, Henri Lansbury and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas are all on loan in the Championship, and the manager would rather recall one of these players than dip into the transfer market on deadline day.

The boss explained: “Denilson looks to have a hamstring problem but certainly less serious than Nasri. But I have given a few players on loan, I might recall some.

“We have Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, we have especially Henri Lansbury who has gone on loan. I can recall Kyle Bartley but he has not played at all in the Premier League.

“It is difficult at the moment. Ramsey is out on loan for one month. If it is a month you have to wait for the month unless we have exceptional injuries, then you can have the request [to recall a player]. But Ramsey needs games so even if you recall him he needs first games before he plays.”

Striker Bendtner is also disappointed that the team has lost Nasri, but believes Arsenal have the squad to cope with injuries, and mustn’t let this blow derail their campaign.

“Samir has been very important and scored some great goals,” said the Dane. “He can win games by himself, so obviously we will miss him – but someone else will have to step up and take his place.

“February is a big month for us and at the end of it we will see where we are at. Hopefully it will all look fantastic.”

The Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rumours seem to have died down a little, and although I was initially sceptical about signing a 17-year-old from League One, he might turn out quite useful; I’m not confident about three weeks of Bendtner or Arshavin out on the left.

Maybe £35million for Andy Caroll would do it? £50million for Ashley Young? Some of the rumours I’ve heard today are mad. I hate the transfer window…

I'm 23-years-old and currently living in Bristol, studying to be a journalist. I've been hooked on Arsenal since I was about 10, and as much as I sometimes wish I could stop, I can't give them up. Favourite player of all time would have to be Patrick Vieira for the sheer passion with which he played the game.

“..he needs first games before he plays..”
Lost in translation or inspired by Ancient philosophers?
Le Prof, don’t mean to be condescending.. But perhaps the answer is not as complicated as you made it out to be.. ?

After watching the Man U V Southampton game i think signing Chamberlain would be beneficial. He looked very good in that game and looks like he has a footballing brain to go along with his pace and skill. I would like to see him here but maybe another half a season with first team football at Southampton will do him good before we pick him up in the summer :)

Agreed for RVP on the left and Chamakh upfront.
Walcott to provide speed on right with Bendtner to help Chamakh, Fab and Song in centre.
But personally that’s when I’d have used Vela.

Nasri will be missed big time, but V Persi left, Walcott right Fab and Song in the middle, Chamakh and Bendtner up front does not look bad to me.

Firstly im sad nasri is out for 3 weeks, hes been one of our best players thus far. Secondlyi can’t help but to say denilson is a joke, how the guy is a brazillian makes me scratch my head, because the guy can’t make easy passes to save his life, and he makes far too many mistakes, Thirdly AW is such a stingy bugger and didn’t strengthen the squad when we clearly have the cash to splash, AW would rather bring in old pensioners like squilachi for 6M, i wouldn’t pay 6 pence for the guy, we could have bought micah richards who can play right back and centre back and he’s been an arsenal fan since he was a boy, micah richards is quick, big and strong, hes a very good player and hes young, im sure he would have fit in our team nicely, anyway no more complaining from me guys, i hope we can cope at the back somehow and cope without nasri for a few weeks, we are having a great season and i really hope we can win 1 trophy at least, GO U GUNNERS.

we have been linked with him for years, but its never going to happen, manc would never sell an important player to a rival, and if they did they would set a 20million $ price tag on him, theres alot better players floating around that would cost half that.

Don’t know why you left, your insight and knowledge of the game is welcomed on the site…even though your a dirty spud haha

it is true something is up, considering every transfer window he promises players yet signs nothing, whats even worse is that he teases signings but never delivers, surely hes not that blind. I mean squillanci come on the guys a joke, and he makes kozza play awful when they partner up. I knew that joker would be back before the window was over, screwing up any chance we had of signing a new CB. I was contemplating flying over and taking a crobar to his knee so he stayed out a bit longer (id have to pay a visit to denilson while im over there).

To all those stupid blind arsenal fans who are calling other fans ‘glory hunters’ because they want signings piss off. ‘arsene knows blah blah blah,we have trust in the squad ect’ its completely naive to think we don’t need reinforcements. Look what happened last year we pretty much limped over the line, luckily we got sol when we did. Its all well and good being optimistic and thinking no-one will get injured between now and the end of the season, but with our track record of injuries and soft players (rvp, gibbs, diaby, ect) we could spurn another great oppurtunity!

Its passion to want your team to succeed, and we are a couple of players away from being a force.

que the ‘go to spurs, chelsea, or man city if you wana see signings’ rants from fellow supporters.
No-one is asking for ridiculous spending but 10mil for someone like hangleland (sp?) isn’t going over the top.

Come on gunners, and oh how i hope nasri comes back quickly. Him,rvp, and occassionally fabregas are the passion of this team!
we could have bought micah richards
He’s so good that he rarely plays for the citeh team. He became more interested in music/DJing than his football. Maybe he’s now seen the error of that and concentrating on football again … maybe.
But It’s good to know we have an ‘insider’ in ‘we gun thee’ who knows which players are actually for sale and understands that it’s nothing like ‘on-line’ football manager.

I don’t recall Wenger ever promising to buy new players. He has often said that he would only buy to improve the team and would never pay the exorbitant prices so often quoted.

    Welcome back Bigsy.

It must be galling for you to watch dear old ‘Arry in the transfer market. He’s made offers for around six strikers, in this window, and been rebuffed by all of them. Mind you he has managed to off-load Keane so you are down to just Little and Large and that catatonic Russian.

How good it is to see your club’s ambitions stretch as far as offering £500.000 for Phil Neville, and being turned down yet again. Still you’ve got Pienaar. Ho Ho ho.

not when most of the time he haggles over a million or so. Jagielka, swarz…,and so forth. When he has said he would buy to strengthen he never does.

Would Schwarzer have been the answer? is Jagielka that good? Were either actually available? We only have press speculation to go on!

I feel Nasri will make the Barca game I dont no why AW is trying to make everyone panic. Im glad to see Diaby bk in my opion he has to play against Barca ahead of wilshire Diaby is a big game player who narmally performes well in big games if wilshire starts in MF this will make us light weight in the centre and Inesta and Xavi will eat us for breakfast, i think Cappelos commets comparing him to Makelele is a complete joke Wilshere is a completely differnt player to Makelele. Hes more of an Nasri type of player who will drift about in midfeild, IF Nasri dosent make the Barca game i would play Diaby and Song in Midfield and play Wilshire in the Nasri role. OMG im sooo great dont u just wish i managed the team?

JIN – do not believe we were even half serious about signing anybody , it is all a ploy so Levy can (in the next few days) come out with the classic line,
“we had the money but cannot compete on salary until we move’ they made no attempt to rectify the situation of 3 strikers who are Wa*k !Crouch, Pav and wack it as hard as you can Defoe..we will not make top 6 now ! city, liverpool, chelsea, all away , you at home ..all over !..as it happens I would have took Neville purely on the basis he is better than Jenas , Corluka , and Palacios so either as cover in middle or right back it was a good option..what angers me is nth london is watching the lot who 20 years ago had a tin roof and cars parked by the corner flag..go on a rampage again..just gutted !

    Bigsy,

I’ll be sorry if you move, I have one fantastic memory of White Hart Lane, I was there, with my Spurs supporting wife, when Arsenal won the league title on the Monday night before going on to complete the double by beating Liverpool in the Cup Final. 1971.

Lots of rumours that he has agreed a ‘pre-agreement’ with us and will sign in the summer. Not sure if I believe that but it is the sort of commitment that our managers tend to put into signing promising young players.

I too watched that game and thought he played with a maturity of a much more experienced player.

Its seems as though ‘arry just looks at the gossip collumns and bids for any of the players mentioned. Its no surprise none of the deals ever came off as those rumours are the most unrealistic of possible transfers.

well we sold man city 2 of our players, kolo toure and adebayor, didn’t mind seeing adebayor go since he has attitude problems, i still think we need a good versatile defender who can play right back and centre back, djorou and koshez are both very good but if 1 of them is injured then what are we gonna do, the truth is were gonna struggle because wenger didn’t buy someone decent.
