Wojciech Szczesny became embroiled in a row with a hateful Chelsea fan after poking fun at Ashley Cole’s penalty blunder that handed Everton a dramatic spot-kick win in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
Our keeper used his Twitter account to have a gentle dig at Cole – who skied his lame effort high into the gleeful Everton fans in the Shed – and was met with a foul-mouthed tirade from one Chav in particular.
Chesney tweeted: “What do you think Ashley was aiming for when he took his penalty?” Then he added: “Is it a plane? Is it an aeroplane? No, its just ashley throwing chelsea out of the FA Cup:).”
That was the cue for some vile abuse which I won’t even bother to reproduce here but it is safe to say the cave-dweller wasn’t happy with our No.1. He’d better get used to it the way the Russian’s plaything are performing. Many Gooners responded to the Pole’s tweet describing it as the “best-ever” from an Arsenal player.
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has asked the players to keep up the standards they set in overcoming Barcelona when we travel to League One Leyton Orient in the FA Cup fifth round today.
AW remains confident that we are is capable of snaring some silverware this season. He added: “We want to go for every competition,” he said. “I believe we can go in every one to the end but it can also stop very quickly. It’s down to how much we believe and how much commitment we show. I’m convinced we have the hunger and we have some talent and we are all committed to go as far as we can.”
As for team news, Johan Djourou could be back after recovering from a back injury ge picked up against Barcelona, while Theo Walcott has also recovered from a hamstring problem and Bacary Sagna returns after suspension.
“From the other night we have not lost anybody with a big injury. Djourou looks to be much better than expected, Walcott as well. Abou Diaby is suspended so he will not be involved but he could not play anyway, he is not ready,” he added.
For those of you like me travelling to the game remember that the Central Line is up the shoot so you’ll need a bus or overground train from Blackhorse Road.
