Adebyor: I wanted to be at Arsenal forever

‘Once you go Arsenal, you never go back’ seems to have been a trend in the years under Arsene Wenger, the latest example being former striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
The Togolese target man left two years ago for Manchester City, but fell down the pecking order under Roberto Mancini, and is now on loan at Real Madrid.
Despite leaving the club under something of a cloud, Adebayor admits he was living the dream at Arsenal and that he regrets leaving the club he’d always dreamed of playing for, under a manager who he believed has made him a big player.
He said: “It was another level there [at Arsenal]. Bergkamp, Henry and Van Persie were there – it made me improve as a footballer. I became a key figure in attack and it shows that I was a success.
“Wenger taught me to arrive on time at training, to be professional, how to mentally recover, to act professionally with the other players in the dressing room. But, to be honest, I left frustrated. I loved the club.
“When I was young, one of my dreams was to play for Arsenal because my idol, Kanu, played there. I thought I would stay there for the rest of my career.”
