How much is Bendtner worth?

It’s been one of many rumours circulating today, already mentioned on this site in fact, and it raises some interesting questions: it’s a supposed £15million bid from Blackburn Rovers for Nicklas Bendtner.
Now, even though I’d consider myself one of Bendtner’s more favourable fans, my instinct at seeing that is to bite their proverbial hand off. However, when you look at the current market, and consider that Andy Carroll moved for £35million, surely Bendtner is worth something a little closer to that kind of sum?
It might be that the Carroll move was something of a one-off, made by a club that is not exactly known for spending money responsibly, on the back of a giggly high from the ridiculous sum received for Fernando Torres.
Still, like I said, I am not one of the Bendtner haters, and I would like to think we might hold out for a little more money before letting him go. He has obvious weaknesses in his control and first touch, but his goals to game ratio is very good, and he does seem capable of scoring a variety of goals, from well-placed headers to curlers from outside the box, something Marouane Chamakh, for instance, is not so good at.
It’s also important to remember he’s still only 23, and we could be in danger of losing him before he hits his peak. For now, however, his relatively young age makes him a good candidate for a squad player.
The only potential stumbling block here is his own high opinion of himself. Never shy to talk himself up, Bendtner might feel he should be more than a squad player and be willing to move to a smaller club in order to become first choice. Of course, he might also think he’s too good for somewhere like Blackburn and prefer to fight for his place here. Who knows?
Right now I’m struggling to think of players available for around the same price who’d be much of an improvement on B52. Perhaps if Carlos Vela were to leave as well, we might have enough for a cheeky bid for Karim Benzema or Gonzalo Higuain?
Ok I’ll leave it there, before this turns into Championship Manager.
