EXCLUSIVE: New Arsenal crest explained

by CARL ELDRIDGE We brought you the first glimpse of the new kits for next season a couple of weeks back and now we can explain the design of the new crest.

A well-placed source has told Arsenalinsider that the 15 laurel leaves to the left side of the crest reflect the design detail on the reverse of the six pence pieces paid by 15 men to establish the club – the laurel leaves also represent strength.

The 15 oak leaves to the right of the crest give a nod to the founders who, as you probably know, would meet in the Royal Oak pub. Underneath the crest is one of the first recorded mottos related to armament and battle – ‘Forward’.

To commemorate next season’s 125th anniversary of the club, the new Arsenal home shirt will be available from all official club stores on June 9. But it’ll be available for pre-order from the club beginning on May 2.

Arsenal will be celebrating the launch of the shirt by holding a special event at The Armoury (the Arsenal club shop at the Emirates) as well as at all Arsenal and Finsbury Park stores on May 2. All stores will be open from 10am to 5pm that day.

    Quality! I actually like the fact that this design has been thought about and researched so it actually means something instead of just being a design. I sincerely hope that someone from the club actually sits the squad down and explains the meaning of this crest and the story on which it’s based to give them a sense of pride each and every time they wear the colours of the club and represent us on the pitch “for battle”.

    I think the word forward should be replaced by “Centre Back”.

    Much more pertinent!

    ps, A large number 6 in the centre of the wheel, to represent six trophy-less years.

    The sixpenny piece used to be called a “tanner”, it bought a lot in the 1890s. Perhaps the designer forget about Woolies and the sixpenny start?

    As for the old style field artillery, it would be more pertinent to use a Big Bertha? After all The Arsenal came to the fore after World War I.

    “Big Bertha” was a German heavy gun mounted on rails, not particularly relevant to Arsenal.

    i think arsene still uses the sixpenny pieces for transfers!

    i hope the team plays will heart in honour of the 125yrs, if they put in another season like this itl be a disgrace to the club, the fans and all past players who gave everything for arsenal

    Great –lets focus on crests and yet more shirts while we havent won a trophy im six years. If this is the kind of nonsense the Arsenal bureaucrats focus on no wonder we dont win. Why dont they spens their time analyzing game video to figure out why we choke??

    Absolute codswollop. Stop designing crests and go find us a new manager !!

    The club is run by accountants and middle managers. As long as we are in the black they dont care if we win trophies. Sure, lets design another 45 pound shirt for the fans to buy so it can subsidize them sitting in the executive viewing lounge with their pals from public school sipping G and Ts. Donkeys.

    The word “Forward” should be replaced with “Rusting”.
    Until a change of mentality and direction is displayed by the board and manager, all fans should boycott merchandise.This will hit the board where it hurts – in the pocket.It will send a message to them that we won’t be taken for granted.That we’re angry, and will not accept a position that puts financial interest and commercial profits, ahead of winning trophies.
    Don’t attend a few matches, don’t renew your season ticket ( they’re insulting and taking the piss out of you with a 6.5% rise, anyway ), and don’t buy replica shirts e.t.c. This is your chance to make a statement to the board. Use it to it’s maximum effect !

    pretty sure their are different parts of arsenal football club who sort out the merchandise side of things. Wegner, the coaches, and the players themselves should be analysing games. The way they play i doubt they do, it looks like all we do is practise pass and move plays. Nothing on offensive and defensive tactics.

    Where is the arsenal that played chelsea? after that game i honestly thought we were going to adopt the barca defensive approach and defend as a team, but it was just a 1 hit wonder it seems
