Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is weighing up a £12million bid to bring Blackburn colossus Christopher Samba to the Emirates.
The papers this morning suggest the central defender is high on AW’s list of summer targets and after an impressive season with Rovers, he is poised to make his move for the no-nonsense defender.
The names of Everton’s Phil Jagielka, Bolton ace Gary Cahill and Mamadou Sakho of Paris Saint-Germain are all being touted aagain this morning in the tabloids but it is pointed out that they are likely to cost more than Samba, 27, who has said a move to the Gunners nearly happened in January. If only it had!
Other reports today say AW will offer RVP a five-year deal to keep him at Arsenal for the rest of his career. It is said that he has got two years left on his current £70,000-a-week deal, but we are keen to tie him down quickly with no shortage of takers if he decides to move.
Meanwhile, Bacary Sagna has insisted AW enjoyed the full support of the club’s players City’s win over Stoke edged us out of third spot in the Premier League and facing missing out on automatic qualification to next season’s Champions League.
He said: “Everyone is 200 percent behind him. I think he is the right guy. He made a lot for the team, for the players and for the club as well. So we just want to keep working hard and give the maximum.”
Sagna also believes midfielder Cesc Fabregas, repeatedly linked with a move to Barcelona, will remain at the Emirates. “Of course. He is under contract with the team. He is still our captain,” Sagna said. “We need him badly because he is a good player, he is very talented and everyone knows what he can bring to the team. So I am looking forward to playing with him next year.”
