Barcelona will launch a new bid to snare for Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal on the day after the Champions League final. Reports today claim Barca could make a move to capture the Gunners star once they have played Manchester United at Wembley next Saturday.
But they appear to be coming up a bit short with the wonga. Barca will offer £26.5million as well as a choice of two fringe players, according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo. Speculation surrounding Fabregas’s future at the Emirates hasn’t gone away after he nearly departed last season before Arsene Wenger persuaded him to stay.
AW has had his say on the matter. He said: “I expect him to be here, and I will fight very hard to keep him here. You have always to fight when you have a player of that quality. You must always fight to keep your players. What guarantees you that if you go somewhere else you will win trophies? The biggest pride for a captain is to be committed to his club and deliver trophies with his team.
“A player who changes his club every time he is frustrated or when he doesn’t win a trophy, goes nowhere. I believe the quality of sports life is to be committed to your club and not just to move out when it does not go as well as you expected.”
Meanwhile, Denilson has said he wants to leave Arsenal after the worst season of his career. The midfielder, 23, who is flying home to Brazil after Sunday’s match with Fulham, blamed his frustration on the club’s six-year trophy drought, saying: “I am so upset. I am a winner and I came here to win trophies but I’ve been here for five years and won nothing.
“A footballer’s career is over very quickly so it is time for me to move on. This has been the worst season of my life. I made up my mind eight months ago. But I haven’t said anything because I did not want to disrupt the team during the season.
“I’ve been to see Arsene Wenger and told him how I felt and he agreed to let me go. I know some people will think I’m crazy. They are right. It is a great club, with a great organisation, a great manager and so many talented players. I need a fresh challenge and although I’m taking a big gamble, I’m ready to take that risk.”
Hmmm. A winner, eh? Ok then. Cheers for that first half at WBA by the way, Denilson…
