Parlour and Winterburn on an important summer for Wenger

Former Gunners heroes Ray Parlour and Nigel Winterburn have both had their say on Arsene Wenger and the job he has to do this summer.

The Arsenal manager is under immense pressure to spend more money on players in order to deliver trophies after a barren run of six seasons.

There have been suggestions that Wenger should make way for a new manager, but Parlour and Winterburn think he should stay, as long as he makes more of an effort to change things around in the close-season.

Parlour said: ”In a way, when Arsene Wenger first came to the club the supporters got a bit spoiled as he continued the tradition of winning trophies.

“But you also have to look at what else he’s brought to the club with a new training ground and the infrastructure for a new ground.

“The last six years haven’t been great in terms of winning things so I think he’ll need to reassess things and bring some new players in over the summer.”

Winterburn added: ”I think Arsene Wenger will change it in the summer and will bring in some new players.

“It’s a massive season for Arsenal next year and a big summer ahead.

“I think he needs to bring some more players in and maybe let a few go. This is where the manager has to earn his money.”

I'm 23-years-old and currently living in Bristol, studying to be a journalist. I've been hooked on Arsenal since I was about 10, and as much as I sometimes wish I could stop, I can't give them up. Favourite player of all time would have to be Patrick Vieira for the sheer passion with which he played the game.

the manager has to earn his money..rightly said…so far every Arsenal fan is watching the transfers who’s in and who’s out..come the start of the next season if these players remain and nothing is changed I don’t think the fans will be all too pleased with the way this club is heading

Wow! That’s really insightful stuff, from Winterburn and Parlour.

I wonder why nobody thought of it before!

What a radical idea: Bring in some new players over the summer! Did the pair of muppets get paid for saying that?

You can have all the players you like but if the manager is a loser doesnt matter.

See Rafa at Liverpool last five years; Rafa at Inter took the eoropean champs to disaster in a few weeks.

The first business for Arsene, is to assemble a team that can finish the season strong. He must not allow his heart to rule his head when it comes to cutting off players that have shown little progress this season.

Arsene must go after the players he needs and do not spend the entire summer tinkering and counting the pennies, as the team has to gel and be ready for the start of the new season.

He must sort out the coaching team, chop, change and set new expectations.

He must set ambitious goals for the next season. It should be to break all previous club records by previous Arsenal squads. Should most of those be achieved Arsenal would have a blistering season.

That was a long time ago, just like Wenger.

Name a manager that has had a multiyear drought and then come back to win a significant title at the same club?

Once you lose your nut at a ckub you are done. Wenger is done.

    You are absolutely completely right.

But it doesnt matter because the captain of this Titanic, AW, is sticking to his course full steam through the iceberg field. Next season will be more of the same.

The man doesnt accept advice or that he has a problem.
