Arsenal winger Theo Walcott believes that money must be spent this summer, if the club are to end the wait and win a trophy for the first time since 2005.
Arsene Wenger has already stated that he is planning an “active” transfer window this summer, but has also insisted that he will not pay over-the-top fees for players.
The futures of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas both remain in doubt, but Walcott is still in a positive mood about next season.
“If we can build our squad and hopefully keep our best players, it will look good for us.
“We need to win something next season. It has been so long.
“The fans have waited so long and as players we don’t like seeing every year go without winning anything, especially a big club like Arsenal.”
However when asked about Samir Nasri, Walcott was not so optimistic.
“He is a very important player for Arsenal and we will just see in the summer what happens.”
The latest word on the street is suggesting that Arsenal will sign Gervinho before Friday. Arsenal have been the favourites to sign the Ivory Coast international since day one, despite interest from other clubs such as Liverpool and Newcastle United.
