Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has revealed that there are ongoing discussions between Arsenal and FC Barcelona, over the future of Cesc Fabregas.
Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, Hill-Wood admitted that a move to Spain is still on the cards for the Gunners captain – despite stating that the board do not want to sell Cesc to the European champions.
“Yes, they have spoken to us about Cesc. They have been in touch but so far they have not made a bid and we do not want to let him go.
“But he comes from Barcelona so it is understandable if he wanted to go back. However, they have not made an offer so far.”
Barca president Sandro Rosell has suggested that it’s unlikely that an improved offer will be made, proposing that Cesc is now worth less than he was 12 months ago – when the original £35m offer was made, and rejected, by Arsenal.
It appears that the board are looking to cash in on Fabregas this summer, but only if the price is right.
With all things considered, I’ll admit that it could be in our best interests to sell Fabregas this summer.
I will refrain from using the term “cash in”, as I have too much respect for Cesc, but part of me believes that we should sell our captain – as much as it pains me to say it.
