Wenger must pay £12m to take Samba to Arsenal

samba

Arsene Wenger will have to stump up over the odds to take Christopher Samba from Blackburn to Arsenal, it is reported. The Mail claims that Samba’s former club Hertha Berlin will get 15 per cent of any fee for his services.

The paper says that Blackburn are reluctant to sell the centre back, 27, but seem certain to insist on at least £12million after agreeing to the clause when they signed him from Hertha for £450,000 in 2007.

The Sun reckons Samba has told Rovers he wants to join Arsenal. Anuradha Desai, the chairperson of Rovers’ owners Venkys, admitted Samba ss keen on a move to north London. Desai said: “We don’t want to let Chris go. I’m confident that we can keep him and I hope he’ll stay. I know he has an ambition to play for Arsenal but I hope we can keep him for another year at least and prove our own ambition.”

The Mail also reports that Arsenal remain hopeful of finalising a £12m deal for Lille striker Gervinho this week and are chasing Southampton’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 17. It adds that Arsenal are awaiting a formal bid from Barcelona for Cesc Fabregas. Some reports suggest that Barcelona are considering selling striker David Villa to Chelsea in order to fund the purchase of Fabregas.

Hmmmmm i think it is a good deal if we can bag him for £12m and sell clichy and move Verminator left back. But i dont know if Wenger would defo go for Samba or Cahill. Samba looks at least in his 30s.

seriusoly what is with wenger every transfer of his takes months and months to finanlisbut if its a cheap 16 year old kid it takes a matter of days. WEnger is just so cheap. if this was ferguson he would have finalsed all his deals, as he is proving to do this transfer window and also last transfer window. Wenger really has a problem. Each transfer window we have to wait months and months to see if have signed anyone, and when we do its some mediocre player to boot. WEngerr get your finger out your ass, and pay the money that is wanted if not gtfo.

The delay with this transfer is samba is on holidqy returning this week. i hope we do not quibble over the extra 4m. we could raise that by selling squillaci. personally i would sell.him eboue traore and clichy. that should give us enough to buy cahill. then we need around 20m to buy samab enrique and barton. that would be all my defensive problems sorted.

    sagna cahill samba vermaelen
(koscielney djourou bartley enrique) would be my back up along with jenkinson and gibbs.

defensive mid song or barton with coquelin and frimpong going on loan. if song and barton were both unavailable or we needed more height in there kos verm bartley djourou and diaby could all play there.

if barca are planning on selling david villa to fund a move for cesc then why dont they just offer him in a swap deal, makes sense to me as we need another striker, i think he would be a great signing and would make nasri stay and also attract bigger players to the club

@John Muhindo….so let me get this straight the add on clause was added cause you are suggesting Wenger has dragged it out 2 weeks?

The extra 2 million is worth it if Wenger believes it can go a long way to fixing the problems that cost us the title last season

I think the Board would rather have sale of Cesc money in the Bank to fortify our position at top of European Financial Fair Play table. Rumours are that Uefa will be awarding a trophy for the club finishing at top next season.

Negotiation doesn’t usually lead to the price you pay going up. If Arsenal are slow at doing deals its because they try to make the seller wait and to get the best price possible. Sometimes this can back fire though and that has been a big problem.

Why do Arsene likes dilly dyling on issues that are very important. We were very very vulnerable last season defensively, but yet all we hear is rumors of some notable players coming to Arsenal. Wenger wake up and do what it is right. barely tweo weeks for all the players return from holidays and yet no news of player signings? what a shame!!!

What so many of you seem to forget is that this is all newspaper speculation.

Much of the speculation is based on player’s agents leaking false stories, to the tabloid hacks, in order to drum up some interest in their client and so bump up their own commission should a sale eventually go through.

In the words of Michael Winner “Calm down dear, it’s only a mouse”.

i can sense a “shwartzer” coming on. i hope im wrong. 123 million isnt too much when bendtner is being valued the same. I agree with most on here….wenger believes he is a tough negotiator, whereas 99% of the population believe he is a cheapskate. Arsenal are a big enough club to pay 12 to blackburn……all the big clubs pay over the odds…thats the way it is.

Crazy money he is not worth £7m why not buy Richard Dunne for £5M if we what a slow tough centre back. Much better defender Samba is cr**.

If you are going to spend £12m on him add an extra £5m and get Zapata from Udinese who is a world class centre back and still young.

Plus, even if they are prepared to sell villa to get Cesc, they probably would offer him to us but we (the supporters)wouldn’t find out until 1st july when the international transfer window officially opens and we wouldn’t get fined for announcing it!

And only 2 weeks BEFORE the international tranfer window opens (admittedly AW could have done some UK deals by now).

Gervinho’s deal will be finalised this week according to the mail and Samba will follow soon. I guess there’s nothing Rovers can do to stop the defender to join us if he wants to. The stumbling block is only the fee at the moment. Let’s see whether our club is willing to pay 12million pound for Samba.

Do you know what you’re saying ? Thats just football, of course a deal for a youngster takes alot less time than a first team pro. Fergie is your example ? we are run alot different to Man Utd and fergie has signed so many players for expensive fees that are terrible. I can only think of 1 or 2 players that arsene has signed for big fees that didnt work out and they were still good footballers (reyes comes to mind). Stop being an impatient bafoon and let wenger do his job.

Agree 100% mate, none of these people saying “oh it takes ages, wenger pull your finger out” actually have a clue of what is going on behind the scenes and who the actual targets are. They think because some journo website/paper has been reporting that we are after these guys for the past 6 months that wenger must be sitting on his arse with his pennies clutched close to him being a stubborn bastard. Who knows if we are even in for half these guys. To be honest i havent been impressed with any of the names the media have mentioned. Fans are delusional of they think that Barton or Baines is going to take us to the next level.
