‘Alvarez has signed for Arsenal’ claim Palermo

armoury

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has claimed that attacking midfielder Ricky Álvarez has signed for Arsenal, according to an Italian radio station.

Goonertalk have seemingly broken the story here. They run these quotes: “We had a specific interest which we express as early as January. Unfortunately, a mistake on our part has happened and he has already signed for Arsenal.”

But other bloggers disagree. On Twitter @ (Jamie Sanderson) says: “Zamparini has been misquoted on Álvarez. Actually said, ‘it would be difficult because Arsenal are interested’.”

Google translate the quote from Tuttosport as this: “Alvarez Velez? we had a specific interest we had in hand as early as January. Unfortunately, our mistake we did a quick run at the moment and has already signed for Arsenal.”

All very confusing this end!

Goonertalk says Alvarez has been a member of the Velez squad since 2008, although a cruciate ligament injury suffered in the same year stalled his breakthrough into the first team. The 6ft 2in Argentine, who also holds an Italian passport, is known for his versatility, and can play across the midfield, as well as a second striker.

What do you make of the news if true? How good is Alavarez?

Nothing on Arsenal.com, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Frankly I’ve never heard of the player but it wouldn’t surprise me if Wenger has unearthed another gem of a prospect.

Firstly, learn to spell. Secondly, stop using Caps Lock. Thirdly, no he hasn’t signed for the Argentinian Arsenal, they are talking about us gooners. Why would the Alvarez sign for a worse club in the same league when he is supposed to be such a good prospect??

    Hi guys, I’m from Argentina.

Ricky Álvarez is an incredible player and we as gunners would be happy to have him with us.

He HAS NOT signed for argentinean Arsenal, it’s impossible. This club is a mid-league club, and Velez is the champion. Plus, Álvarez is valued in 12M€ and there’s no club in Argentina that could even afford half.

That’s all I can say. I hope he signs for us.

    Cheers

You DO realize there’s a team called Arsenal in Argentina, right? I think there’s a strong possibility he means the Argentine Arsenal…

If this is true, than I must say that Wenger has bought another star. I’ve been following his progress for a year and he is very good at spotting passes, a great dribbler, has got good acceleration to beat players, and likes to have a pop with his left foot. I was worried that Inter, Palermo, or the other clubs were going to get him and I am breathing a sigh of relief now, if this report is true that is. Fellow Gooners I say worry not as Ricky is going to be big mark my words, he may not be the “big” signing most were expecting but this is a great start, again if true.

Is there anyway you can rid this website of the “bounc3d” pop up ad? It’s starting to become really really annoying….still no signings either. we will probably sign Samba and keep Cesc and Nasri….Gervinho might come in, but thats it…prob be seeing more of Vela and less of Arshavin this year too

yeah those popups are f*ckin annoying.

And don’t forget that the transfer window in most countries of the world only opens on the 1st of July so even if deals have been done with players from other countries, they probably won’t be announouced until then.
