New Arsenal away shirt confirms our scoop

awaykit

Arsenal have released snaps of Jack Wilshere sporting the new away kit for next season confirming the news we broke back in April. We exclusively revealed an image of the dark blue and light blue top on April 14 and maintained our position as the first Arsenal website to bring you a glimpse of the latest shirt. Our man-in-the-know FTK scooped the world with the story and we were super-confident that, yet again, he was spot-on and once again we have been vindicated.

Back then he wrote: “Well you have all been waiting for the revelation of the 125th Anniversary Away shirt and here it is. I have done our usual artists impression to protect our sources. Loyal readers of this blog will know from our previous exclusive Arsenal Kit releases that you can rely upon us, however I reckon there was a plot to try and prevent Arsenalinsider from claiming it’s usual accurate release exclusive for the shirt design, when free London daily paper The Metro give away the details of the home shirt in March. But no-one to my knowledge had the real away shirt.

So the palms had been very sweaty whilst the usual fakes did the rounds.” So, remember where you read and saw it first and stick with Arsenalinsider for all the latest news on the Gunners.

Looks horrible. But I’m a traditionalist who only likes yellow with blue trim away kits and red with white sleeve (with red cuffs and white collar) home shirts.

    That crest looks horrible, too.

Extremely Unimpressive. It looks like some 3rd Division league side’s jersey. As if the horrible colour-combine was not enough to ruin the looks, they have replaced the logo badge with this printed stamp. We should have had the BEST-looking jersey on our 125th year.

Is this also AW’s handiwork? Is he contracted to spoil all that the club earned so far. I’m sooooo sad.

I own the away top already.. a promotional proto-type.. and its every bit as horrible as the thought of Denilson, Bendtner, Eboue, Squillachi still being 1st team squad members next season/./

It may not be the greatest design to some of us but there are significances within the design.

The celebratory badge design features 15 laurel leaves to the left side of the club’s crest to reflect the detail on the reverse of the sixpence pieces paid by 15 men to establish the club in Woolwich in 1886.

The 15 oak leaves to the right of the crest pay tribute to the founders who would meet in the local Royal Oak pub. Underneath the crest is one of the club’s first recorded mottos – ‘Forward’ – with the anniversary dates of 1886 and 2011 either side.

The front of the new away shirt is divided into two halves, one navy blue and one turquoise blue, inspired by the away kits worn by Arsenal teams from the past. The diagonal line represents the gnomon (the pointer) which casts the shadow on a sundial – to commemorate the original Dial Square sundial on the site of the Arsenal munitions factory in Woolwich, where the club was founded by workers in 1886.

The back of the shirt is entirely navy blue, with one sleeve navy and the other turquoise blue. A stripe runs down each sleeve, broken into three parts to further represent the Dial Square sundial.

A simple fact of life: Arsenal’s away kit is yellow & blue. Why mess around with it? A co-incidence that many of our finest moments (including the Invincibles) came in the classic colours? I don’t think so. Don’t try to baffle us with marketing jargon. The retro kits still sell the better than recent affronts on our heritage. Just give us back our identity. It’s one to be proud of & part of why many of us love Arsenal.

The same applies to our crests. The art deco 30s one is a design classic. Why not be proud of the damn thing, rather than foisting that bland mickey mouse beermat crest on us.

    SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON.

Personally, I like the kit. I think it speaks to the transition from the old to the new. The 125th crest is all about tradition, whereas the new colors reflects the growth and development of the club.

Now if only we could see some silverware…
