Wenger closes in on Cahill to Arsenal

Bolton-Gary-Cahill

Arsene Wenger is close to snaring Bolton defender Gary Cahill to Arsenal as his first signing of the summer. The Telegraph reports we remain hopeful of confirming two new signings within the next week, with a deal for Cahill likely to be made possible by at least one player moving to the Reebok (at this point pray it’s Den).
Alas, the paper claims AW would consider allowing Ignasi Miquel or Henri Lansbury to go on loan at Bolton. Nicklas Bendtner is mentioned as a potential permanent part of the deal.

The Telegraph says Cahill has a release clause of £17 million but Owen Coyle would also like to bolster his squad and, given the desire to make significant changes this summer, Arsenal will not pay an inflated price.

The Mail claims that axed Arsenal director Lady Bracewell-Smith has hit out at Arsenal’s board and sensationally called for them all to be sacked. Bracewell-Smith, who was forced out of the Emirates Stadium in 2009, sold her 15.9 per cent stake to Stan Kroenke for £123million in April which allowed the American billionaire to take control of the club.

Meanwhile, the Mirror says Arsenal fear losing £20million Samir Nasri as well as Cesc Fabregas this week. The paper says the Gunners last night received an improved £34million bid from Barcelona for club captain Fabregas. And Manchester United are also ready to make their move for Nasri with a view to sealing a deal before pre-season training begins next week, they say.

  • Insider eh?

We already signed Carl Jenkinson so Cahill if he come will not be the 1st signing of the summer.

Cahill would be a sweet signing. And it would be great to ship Denilson and Bendtner the other way to make Cahill come cheaper. But I’m afraid, that the best we can hope for is Samba, and only if he comes in for £8M. Wenger won’t pay more, and he won’t pay for Cahill. Odds are, we’ll see more Carl Jenkinses arriving. Young and promising, but fairly unexperienced and inconsistent. And if that is the case, I would rather keep Bartley and play him to see if he works better with Vermaelen than Kos or Johan. Personally, I would prefer to send Lansbury to Reebok on loan. A year long loan in a hardworking EPL team will do him a world of good. And if that would get Arsenal Cahill cheaper, then even better. In a perfect world, Bolton would loan Bartley, Bendtner and Lansbury and all would play regularly. Lansbury and Bartley would come back better players, and Bendtner would get a chance to prove that he’s actually a useful striker. If not, then the deal to Bolton could be made permanently.

fabregas surely must be going for 35-40 million….so that gives wenger absolutely NO EXCUSES for scrimping on players. Cahill should be bought without hesitation, so if not..or wenger dithers and loses his man then he should be held accountable.
So i expect proper quality signings very soon.
Nasri will stay i think, as the quality signings will satisfy his ambition, plus the fact that he will take cesc’s role in midfield. Its not as gloomy as it looks my fellow gooners!

Correct me if I’m wrong guys, but wasn’t the Gervinho signing a done deal not that long ago ? And Samba ?
I’m getting a bit worried, it seems that Wenger just doesn’t want to give the cash. Ok sure, he knows how to get a good deal but at the end of the day, we need these guys and he has to be prepared to pay the full amount from time to time. Sell Fabregas, KEEP NASRI ( A must ), at least don’t sell him to the scum, buy Samba and Cahill with the money from the Fab sale and then let’s get Gervinho ! Van Persie, Gervinho, Walcott, Nasri, Wilshere, Ramsey, Vermaelen ( Left back ? ), Samba, Cahill, Sagna and Sczeczny ! Come on that that’s got to be the solution !!

TBH i dont see Cahill as the ideal additional steel we need at the back…dont see him holding off the likes of Drogba or Rooney for 90minutes…Samba will be beta

Fcuk Nasri, Fat Tart! He can go along with Cesc, Denilson, Bendtner and Clichy. All 5 of them have said they want out so sell them. Tell Barca that they can have Cesc for £34m as long as they swap us Thiago, Maxwell, and Affellay for Clichy, Bendtner and Denilson.

if we let Nasri go to man utd then wenger must go too!!!! Nasri can go overseas but to man utd….. no way!!! that will just prove that wenger has lost his touch because Nasri is no where near past it!!!

Problem is that Nasri is a free player in January. That means he can now decide where he wants to go. Its Wenger and board’s fault that they let his contract run in to last year. There is policy at Man U that no player will be allowed to run there contract below 2 years. Players either have to sign extention or be sold. Rooney is perfact example of this. Lady Nina is right. Sack the board. Players, Manager and Direcrots are making lot of money out of Arsenal, at the expance of Arsenal.

Arsenal are trying to sign him before the end of his contract…it’s just that they haven’t agreed to the terms. Nasri wants a pay raise..but Arsenal won’t give it.
i think losing Nasri on the free is the dumbest thing in the world…just give him his 20K a week raise…that way you have him signed on a long term contract..and then you can get some money for him if you want to sell him off…..and i thought the ppl running these teams were business men.

He’s already accountable for me. I wish he would be fired. I lost my patience with him. Stupid f.ck. He’s as dead as a dodo. He could not even pull off the Gervinho deal yet. How long does he need? 2-3 months? If he had a human character he would stop f.cking around as this makes the rest of the team even more unstable and his prestige lower. It never happened before that so many (average and not even world class) players refused to come to us (last 1 was Mata, though he’s not average). It feels like they think we are a Championship team. Humiliating. And get rid of the 7 crap players!!!

Good morning. I see you woke up. Wenger has to leave. Even if he signs good players, which I doubt, he’s got no tactics and cannot motivate the players.

This type of article and the effort of AW to speak to fans issues show that–
    1. yes he is back at work, and
    2. things will be done this summer to rectify problems and grow this club forward. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/85/england/2011/06/28/2551480/arsene-wenger-pinpoints-arsenals-defensive-weakness-in-open
