Arsene Wenger is close to snaring Bolton defender Gary Cahill to Arsenal as his first signing of the summer. The Telegraph reports we remain hopeful of confirming two new signings within the next week, with a deal for Cahill likely to be made possible by at least one player moving to the Reebok (at this point pray it’s Den).
Alas, the paper claims AW would consider allowing Ignasi Miquel or Henri Lansbury to go on loan at Bolton. Nicklas Bendtner is mentioned as a potential permanent part of the deal.
The Telegraph says Cahill has a release clause of £17 million but Owen Coyle would also like to bolster his squad and, given the desire to make significant changes this summer, Arsenal will not pay an inflated price.
The Mail claims that axed Arsenal director Lady Bracewell-Smith has hit out at Arsenal’s board and sensationally called for them all to be sacked. Bracewell-Smith, who was forced out of the Emirates Stadium in 2009, sold her 15.9 per cent stake to Stan Kroenke for £123million in April which allowed the American billionaire to take control of the club.
Meanwhile, the Mirror says Arsenal fear losing £20million Samir Nasri as well as Cesc Fabregas this week. The paper says the Gunners last night received an improved £34million bid from Barcelona for club captain Fabregas. And Manchester United are also ready to make their move for Nasri with a view to sealing a deal before pre-season training begins next week, they say.
