In these most desperate of times, with Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy all looking set to leave, possibly to join our rivals, Arsenal have been handed a major boost by one star player at least.
Despite numerous offers from big clubs all over Europe (names escape me just at this moment), the all-action Czech midfielder says he wants to achieve things with the Gunners.
After claiming an assist in the FA Cup against the mighty Leyton Orient last season, one wonders what there might be left for this man to achieve, but the 30-year-old says he does not want to slow down.
He explained: “I don’t want to go somewhere where I would have it easier and where even the ordinary life would be easier for me.
“I want to achieve something with Arsenal. On Monday, I am starting pre-season with Arsenal.
“Before vacation I was speaking with coach Wenger and he told me he counted on my services and that there was no intention of selling me.”
In all seriousness, why are we more than happy to sell our biggest names every season, without ever getting rid of the likes of this useless sicknote? Instead of taking in £30million or so and putting it in the bank, why can’t we maybe raise a bit from the combined sales of one or two players like Rosicky, Eboue, Denilson, Diaby and Bendtner and spend the money on some improvements to come in and compete with the first choice players, who currently face no competition for their places?
But that’s just one of many questions for this club at the moment.
