Gael Clichy has thanked Arsenal fans for their support during his time at the club, but believes the time was right for him to move on.
The French full-back left the Gunners yesterday for Manchester City, after eight years in North London, in a £7million move.
Clichy was disappointed with the way things ended with Arsenal this season, and hopes he can fulfill his potential at his new club.
“I have had eight fantastic years at Arsenal and made many friends,” he said.
“I have so many great memories from my time at Highbury and Emirates Stadium. I would like to say thank you to everyone at Arsenal for all of their support and friendship.
“I also want to send a big thank you to all the Arsenal supporters, who have always been so good to me.
“I joined City because I wanted to win a lot of things,” he continued. “[Last season] started well and we just collapsed at the end of the season after the Carling Cup final.
“Things can happen and you see the importance of having a big squad. We had a few players out and its difficult for a team to cope without Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas at the same time. As a team you need a big squad if you want to go a long way.
“That’s why I joined City – because I wanted to win a lot of things. You always progress with competition for places.”
