Arsene Wenger will make a £10m bid to bring Birmingham defender Scott Dann to Arsenal after becoming increasingly frustrated over Bolton’s demands for Gary Cahill.
That is just one of the claims doing the rounds this morning as we head towards the firndly game with Cologne in Germany on Saturday.
The bigger question, however, is will Cesc Fabregas travel? A story circulating yesterday suggested he won’t and the club shops had been alerted not to sell shirts with the skipper’s name on them.
The Mirror claims Cesc has made an plea to AW to let him join Barcelona. The paper says he wants to quit Arsenal and is desperate for AW not to block his “dream move” back to the Nou Camp.
Barcelona are said to have sent a delegation, led by vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu, to London to try to negotiate a deal within the next 48 hours and “avoid any further tensions.”
Meanwhile, the Sun says AW is under pressure from the board to start spending. It says: “Some Emirates chiefs are baffled £11million star Gervinho is the only major arrival, even though the start of the Premier League season is just three weeks away”.
“Wenger has focused on attempting to keep both Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas. And he wants to tie up Robin van Persie to a new deal. He is also considering offering new terms to other emerging players at the club.
“Yet despite being given a large amount to spend, Wenger has failed to lure anyone else other than Charlton’s £1m defender Carl Jenkinson.”
BTW, great song doing the rounds on Twitter yesterday to the tune of Rock the Casbah by The Clash: “Gervinho don’t like ’em, f*** the T********, f*** the T********”
