Aaron Ramsey believes that Arsenal can surprise people this season and end their six-year trophy drought.
The young midfielder is likely to see a lot more first-team action this season after his return from a long-term injury, as well as the likely departures of key midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
But the Welshman is keen to focus on the positives, and believes there is plenty for Arsenal to be optimistic about this season.
“People are entitled to their own opinions but I think and the team thinks that we are more than capable of winning something this season,” he said.
“We’re going to believe that we can and not listen to any of the negative comments that people are saying. We’re confident in what we can do and I’m sure we’ll show that this season.”
Czech Republic international Tomas Rosicky echoed the words of his team-mate, saying that he believes the spirit in the Gunners camp will be stronger this season after last year’s disappointments.
He added: “I think we are stronger, firstly because what happened last season, the experience of it all, will help us. It was disappointing because we were close to winning something and the last two months were not good.
“But all this stuff has to push us more and more because we are capable of winning something. It must be like this.
“It’s very simple – I would like to win a trophy. It doesn’t matter which one. It’s very simple, all we want, all the players and the Arsenal community – the fans – is to win.”
