Arsenal fans’ fury as Wenger buys kid Oxo-Chamberlain

Arsenal fans have voiced their displeasure at Arsene Wenger’s decision to buy “another kid” in the form of teen sensation Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, reports the Mirror.

The paper says AW sealed a £15million deal for Southampton starlet Oxlade-Chamberlain, 17, but that miffed Gooners want to know why he is prepared to spend big on a rookie but not on proven Premier League players.

Season-ticket holder Darren Epstein is quoted as saying: “I hope it will be followed by other signings for the squad. The club has said they would be active, so let’s hope they are true to their word with at least one defender.”

AW said: “He is an exciting young player who will provide us with creativity and an offensive quality. Alex is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions. He can play as an attacking centre midfielder, or wide left and right.

“Alex is a perceptive passer of the ball and has a great understanding of the game and looks to be a very good team player.

“He has done extremely well during his development with Southampton and we are looking forward to him progressing even further and fulfilling his huge potential with Arsenal.”

Oxo said: “I’m so excited to be joining Arsenal. It’s a fantastic club and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity of playing football at the highest level.
Arsenal have a great manager in Arsene Wenger, top quality players and an attractive style of play. These were all important factors in me choosing to sign for Arsenal. ‘Im now looking forward to meeting all my new team-mates and giving absolutely everything in an Arsenal shirt.”
Meanwhile, the Guardian says Arsenal have opened the door for Samir Nasri’s £25m move to Manchester City. The paper claims that there is now an acceptance at the club that when City bid £25m, they would be wise to accept, particularly as he wants to quit the Ems.

The Guardian reminds us that Nasri has stalled on signing the new contract on offer at Arsenal, which is worth £90,000 a week, and knows that he could take home as much as double that at City.

The Sun says Nasri has ignored interest from Manchester United – who are thought to have virtually matched City’s wage offer of £125,000 a week – as his heart is set on playing for Roberto Mancini’s outfit.

So, what do you think of Oxo coming to the Arsenal?

Can’t believe AW would have pushed this transfer through and not had a defender to come in shortly. He would know there will be a fan’s backlash if he doesn’t sign one.

I have a feeling that the signings we have made this year will mean that Theo is going to start playing up top. Hope so.

I’m not sure arsene is that in touch with the feelings of the fans and there could soon be quotes like “we have 6 centre backs already if you include song and diaby so what could I do with another one” and “do you want me to kill Bartley and miquel” etc.

Hope you’re right about Theo moving into the middle as well.

Typical sh!t stirring by the gutter press. Shame you felt the need to lead with a headline like this. Oh well, it will give you some clicks. A big welcome from me and many, many other Arsenal supporters to AOC

Yet another kid. If the gunners don’t want to pay the market price for a reliable epl cd,it will be the usual cock up come spring. On the other hand,Wenger may try to get an unheard of cd from SAfrica/America and we know what happened with the two French defenders.
If Wenger doesn’t get it right this season,he will not be able to bring the gunners to another level. He has reached his zenith and must make way for someone with fresh ideas.

Honestly, is the entire UK on its period?

We’re going to sign a world class centre back in the next 4 days? where do you get your info from?

if we do I’ll happily eat a big helping of humble pie but going by arsenal’s transfer dealings for the past few years, I just can’t see it happening mate.

Have you been following arsenal since the stadium was built? Nothing is “sure” in the transfer market with arsenal and if we do get a defender it will likely be a bargain basement deal done at the last minute after we’ve already played 5 games including the champions league qualifiers and games against man u and liverpool.

The season starts in a few days and if we don’t act now, it is not unreasonable to suggest that we could be 6 points behind after only 3 games before the transfer window has closed.

Man u and liverpool and Newcastle away are difficult enough games as it is, but on the form we showed at the end of last season and with the lethargic and uninspiring performances in pre season, I’m sorry, I’m usually very optimistic at the start of a new season but I just can’t see it getting any better this time round.

I`m not furiose, but I`m far from happy either. We could have bought just about any of our real targets for this amount of money. If AW dosn`t sign a class striker and defender by the end of aguast, then I and many others will be furious.

Fans may be upset but the Supporters are not. Anyone who has a genuine interest in the longevity of the club, realises that signings like AOC are absolutely essential to the long term future of Arsenal Football Club. Sitting at home or in the pub as a fan does not give you the right to moan at every decision made by the board and management getting off your Arse and going to matches does. Now i know that you go to matches Eldo, so i am suprised at your shit stirring. Your article does not speak for the majority, may be just the Bognor Boys.

It’s a tad harsh don’t you think saying “real Arsenal supporters” are only those who can watch games at the Emirates. Money and distance from North London for many may make that impossible, yet im sure prioritising putting food on the table over a game doesn’t make them any less of an Arsenal fan…..just saying, this riled me a little.

Agreed with the other posters – this is disappointing journalism.

You have to realise as a blogger that you influence people with your posts. What kind of welcome have you just given the kid? If confidence influences play, then what kind of confidence are you inspiring fans to give to him?

Signing Chamberlain for a reported 15 million Wenger has left himself wide open to critcism unless he backs it up
by bringing in experience. I fully expect him to do this but I wouldn`t like to suggest a name.

Wenger says that his new signing can play in a number of positions, does this include centre back and left back? That’s where we need signings, for this season not some nebulous time in the future.

Our first game is only days away and with Vermaelen and Gibbs possibly out injured, it looks like we could be going into the game with a defence not to dissimilar to the one which was so woeful in the second half against benfica. Lets hope Szczesny is on good form and luck is on our side.

We need to remember that we were 4-0 up against Newcastle and then Djourrou got injured. That hurt us more than Diaby getting sent off, as Squillaci then came on and ruined us. Hope to god he doesn’t start this weekend. Why can’t he get injured instead of TV5??

Well, still first class attacking power with third class defensive capability.

I don’t understand why we can pay 12 million for this guy and not 17.5 million to get Juan Mata from Valencia, 17 million for Garry Cahill or 12 million for Samba.

Wenger needs to prove that he too can bring in good defensive players especially CB because so far, only Vermanleen, Kolo Toure and Sol Campbell had been successful. The rest like Senderos, Squilacci, Cygan, Silvestre, Gallas, Djourou are a bunch of flops.

I disagree, if Man u had bought him and we had spent the £15 million on a proper defender, it would have been relief and praise for the manager.

We apparently missed out on alvarez and campbell this summer and from what i can gather the feeling was “oh well, doesn’t really matter because what we really need is a defender not another attacking midfielder.”

Agree! More scare-mongering on Arsenalinsider, leave it to the red tops.

Put a couple of quotation marks around it then we at least know it’s someone else’s opinion.

I’m not furious, frustrated maybe but not furious! We certainly don’t need anymore attacking options – unless Nasri IS on his way.

AOC is a typical Wenger signing and addresses none of our problems. We need defenders. Two solid, strong centrebacks as a minimum and more experience in the middle of the park.

Im not furious, but i am annoyed.

Wenger clearly said he would go for experience and ‘world class’ quality ….. only recently he has said super quality signing.

Well, that makes 4 teenagers so far and gervinho. No defenders, no defensive midfielders and no out and our goal scorers.

It shows he has lied to us once again … i hope thats wrong, because there is still a couple weeks to go and he has time but im just doubting its going to happen.

I cant help but notice all the fans who say they are happy to see AOC here pretty much follow on by saying BUT im sure we will sign a defender etc. Don’t you Wenger loving idiots get it, if we dont sign a defender you will all agree with the sane fans amongst us who see that (though talented) another youngster is not what we need at the moment. Your all arguing over nothing, stick together and respect some of us see life past Wenger whilst others support Wenger FC as much as they do Arsenal.

All im saying is, though AOC is a great signing and a great talent, everyone who is bashing and arguing against those who say he isn’t needed right now are doing so whilst admitting we still need a new CB etc. And if we dont get a new CB etc, then what the f*** are you going to be saying….oh ye, exactly what those people who you argue against over this issue are saying now. I don’t know any fans who are furious about this signing to be honest.
I think he’s an exciting signing and hopefully will do well for us.
The only thing fans are concerned (not furious yet!)about is the lack of any defensive signing so far and that is a real cause for concern.
We need two central defenders, a left back and a defensive midfield player in my opinion.
Will we get them? will we f***!

Afobe has about the same number of goals and assists in league 1 last season. He will inevitably be loaned out for the next few seasons and eventually be sold to a championship team for a few hundred thousand and we’ve just spent £15million on Alex. So much for producing our own talent.

The academy is a joke. All we do is buy the best youngsters rather than buying the best adults as man city do.

1.)Welcome Alex! I don’t think anybody, who’s normal hates you. 2.)I’m only furious, because we are impotent in the transfer market to bring in proven players and offload the rubbish (almunia, eboue and co.). Also I hate seeing the “swarm” of AKBs. They whine like pigs and arrogant as usual. It’s a lie that you are a majority, because there are 1-2 dozens of idiots voting against criticism. Most of the people I know would fire Wenger. Not that I would not accept Wenger’s success, if he turned the table around, but that’s very, very unlikely.
