Barca Set To announce Fabregas Deal

Barcelona have finalised an agreement for the transfer of Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal, according to reports in Spain.

Arsene Wenger earlier revealed that he hoped the long-running saga would be resolved very soon and later confirmed his skipper would play no part in Saturday’s Premier League opener against Newcastle at St James’ Park.

It is now being reported in Spain that Fabregas is set to be officially presented as a Barcelona player over the weekend on a five-year contract.

The deal is understood to have finally been done following a protracted pursuit and the midfielder is travelling to link up with his new team-mates ahead of the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid.

Fabregas has never hidden his affection for Barca after starting his career with the Catalan club as a schoolboy, before moving to Arsenal’s youth ranks in 2003.

He quickly emerged as a special talent and over the years has blossomed into one of the finest performers in the Premier League.

Watching Fabregas’ continued development from afar, Barcelona became interested in bringing him back to Camp Nou and speculation intensified during the transfer window of summer 2010.

A move did not materialise last summer and the Gunners were again determined to hold on to him this year, but Barca stepped up the chase and a number of their players publicly called for Fabregas to sign.

There has been no official confirmation of the deal but Barca goalkeeper Victor Valdes believes a move is imminent, telling AS: “I hope so yes and, if the news is confirmed it will be great news, above all for one person, a friend, and the Barcelona fans.

“I’m not disclosing anything, but as you know it is advanced, and although it is not official it will surely be closed very soon.”

Asked if, right now, he could imagine a Barca without Fabregas next season, the goalkeeper added: “I can’t imagine it. I think that the news is almost confirmed and he will surely come, but anything could happen.

“I think that it will be confirmed and I’m very happy.”

The clubs have been in negotiations for some time over a fee, with Arsenal reportedly demanding close to £40million, and Wenger will hope to have time to reinvest the money generated from Fabregas’ sale.

With the future of Samir Nasri also uncertain and less than three weeks to go until the window closes, Wenger’s attention is sure to turn to bringing in reinforcements as he looks to steer the club to their first piece of silverware since 2005.

Clearly someone high up at Barca co ordinates what the players should say and when they should say it so as to unsettle players who they want to sign and try and force the selling club into submission.

How on earth would a goalkeeper know that “it is advanced, and although it is not official it will surely be closed very soon” unless someone higher up is telling him. Also if you look at the order of the ‘related articles’ on skysports.com then it seems as though the players take it in turn to talk about Cesc in quite regular patterns so it must be co-ordinated.

Oh and the other thing is that I’m not expecting a replacement for Fabregas to be signed. Wenger has probably known for a while that Cesc would be leaving this summer as it seems we are selling him on our terms in the sense that now is the right time for arsenal (whether they are acceptable or not to the fans is another matter). So I would have thought that Wenger has decided that Ramsey is a good enough replacement for Cesc otherwise I think he would have bought a cheaper replacement earlier.

Similarly if Nasri stays  one more season, then one of Miyaichi or Chamberlain is probably going to be his replacement next season.

Read Kevin McCarra’s comments regarding Wenger and this whole transfer with Nasri and Cesc:

There is pathos about Arsene Wenger’s comment earlier in the day: “I expect nobody to leave.” As far we can tell, he is in denial rather than putting up resistance. In its own way it is shocking to see this assured man suddenly appearing as if he is at the mercy of events. Fabregas to Barcelona was forseeable and keeping Nasri, when he is a free agent next year, is a challenge. The long-term planning looks atrocious at the moment.

I don’t know whether to be angry at Wenger for lying to us..again..he does praise his defence when the whole world knows they are shit..so not surprised if Wenger is actually blind to the truth or in denial…(leaning towards the denial bit)..

First game is tomorrow..No big players signed for the club (Fuck you Ivan)..no defensive players..(Fuck you Ivan)..Wenger and Ivan lied to us..shame..

I said it last season and I’ll say it again..

God Help us all with our current goal keeper, defence and now a weak midfield…RVP’s contract is up soon?..another transfer request? I hate to be negative but….something tells me this scenario will happen when RVP notices that this club is no longer Arsenal F.C but Money-Hungry-Blokes F.C and No-Actual-Title-Ambition F.C

Shame..what has become of our beloved Arsenal?
