RTK Blog: What if we lose to Udinese…?

Ok this is my nightmare, Arsenal fail to make the Champions League and lose £25 million revenue and drop into the Europa League, then to put it bluntly our chances of staying in the top four are made increasingly worse, as the high quality players who would have come to Arsenal with the lure of Champions League Football will look elsewhere. So when Ivan Gazidis and Arsene Wenger get on the plane to Italy next Tuesday, they will be sweating slightly and hoping that Udinese are held to a draw. It just goes to show how error prone Arsene Wenger has been in this transfer window, because as a result of Koscielny’s back spasm against Liverpool, we are down to ONE fit senior Centre Back in the Premier League. If I were the CEO of Arsenal I would not be sleeping well for the next three nights. Yet he will be unable to buy a single high class player before the end of Wednesday night as I shall explain.

There were performances to be proud of today at the Emirates, mainly because of the pressure that was being placed upon those young shoulders. Arsene Wenger has gambled now once too often. Losing key players like Jack Wilshere to injury could not have been foreseen. However not having recruited a long awaited Centre Back and a Fabregas replacement could have been. The long term future of the club now rests upon one match. Arsene Wenger is right to say that it is not doom and gloom in football terms, but morally Arsenal Football Club is staring over the precipice. Armageddon awaits and what will happen to the fan base? your guess is as good as mine. It is clear that Arsene Wenger is awaiting the outcome of that fixture before making final purchases. The agents of those target players will also want to wait and see if Arsenal qualify for the group stages. The only players who would sign before Wednesday will do so only for financial reasons in contractual terms, and are those the kind of players we really need? It will be a real crisis for the first time, bred and born in Islington.

Yet it need not have been this precarious, given sensible planning, a forthright determination to acquire targets instead of arrogantly trying to save the Shareholders money. If Udinese beat the Arsenal, I predict that the Arsenal share price will fall by at least 10%. Internecine rivalry will lead to protests at the ground, Arsene Wenger will find that the only friendly place will be the Board room, and may for the first time in his career consider breaking a contract before it has expired. Ivan Gazidis will wring his hands and claim that Arsenal will be able to withstand the loss financially and look to blame everyone else except himself. Yet these two very powerful men, Ivan Gazidis and Arsene Wenger, will both have conspired without intention to seriously weaken confidence in the institution and heritage that is Arsenal Football Club, something that two world wars failed to do. What an amazing claim to fame to have. Let the countdown begin. Three days to Salvation or Doom? I think Salvation, but not by design…

Ok I wasn't born and bred a Gooner, but after being in the wilderness, I saw the light and beat a track for Highbury. I have been a season ticket holder for over a decade, and now a life member of the Arsenal Supporter's trust. I hate the Scum and Man U with a passion. Formerly FTK I am co-owner of Arsenalinsider and it's chief blog writer, I can be found having a rant about all things Arsenal, and believe me, you had better listen...

You should keep the FTK as Frimpong the King. He wa awesome. Silly bookings but  he will learn. Great player.

Our main focus for Wednesday should be getting our current players back fit. If Wilshere is back it’s a huge boost, as well as Djourou and Traoré. If we somehow manage to get a team of Szcz-Traore-Vermaelen-Djorou-Sagna-Song-Wilshere (or Frimpong) -Ramsey-Gervinho-Walcott-RvP I have no doubt we will score in Udinese, which will hopefully be enough. I’m still optimistic for the season.
I’m pretty sure that anyone we sign before Wednesday won’t be registered in time to play against Udinese anyway.

and 3 of those are nowhere near good enough to wear an Arsenal shirt ! this is why wenger has bought noone, the quality is not there to be had.

Back spasm can be temporary, so Koscielny could play on Wednesday.

But, Sebastien Squillaci is fit and played in a Champions League Final, so it is not true that there is one fit Senior Centre Back.
Gervinho and Song are not banned for UEFA games, plus Van Persie is no longer banned, and will be sharper after 90 minutes on Saturday.  Ramsey and Walcott add to a side that should score the one needed goal.   Vermaelen continues to be 100% and excellent, and almost the equal of two lamer centre backs. :) UEFA allows virtually unlimited Youth to be registered for the squad, so there will be no position without plenty of backup on Wednesday.

We will lose to Udinese on Wednesday and i have no doubt about this.Why?.Look at how confident they were coming to us at home.At the final whistle, they really celebrated because they know they can reverse the resulta and even add a couple of goals………..The problem here is Mr.Hubris.As lona as continues in some self believe, and won’t spend some  effing money to buy experience,we are toast.I repeat. There is still time to bring in Pappis Cisse Demba for a killer striker and Samba and Cahill at the back……..It won’t happen though and i can only see a tunnel at the end of the current tunnel.IN WENGER WE RUST!!!!

You won’t lose to Udinese, but a run of 2 wins in 13 league games tells me that this is serious serious stuff that will not go away with a few signings, it is deep rooted and Wenger looked absolutely dejected yesterday.
Something is not right around the club, I am in no position to identify what it is but it is clearly a them and us scenario going on with the board and the team to a greater extent than anywhere else in the premier league.
Perhaps the players are just demotivating each other behind the scenes and have lost the faith, mobile phones, emails, Players talk of course they do and right now I doubt anyone at Arsenal really believes in Arsene, that is his biggest mistake in my view, he has shuffled people who were part of the great empire out of the door a bit too quickly without allowing them to discuss how great a manager he really is in the players spare time..the believers are long gone and all the young starlets see and read is about a man who cuts a lonely figure ! ..

So they are waiting to see whether we are in the champions league? Surely it would have been better to act a month ago to ensure we had a squad that was definitely capable of getting into the champions league?

we will and also at old trafford. there is no creativity, no craft, no 1 who can make a killer pass, if ramsey is the answer we are screwed hes not good enough. for about 4 years weve been 2 players short of being great, now we are 4/5. for me that is down to 1 person, the same one who watched a kid make his debut, get booked after 8 minutes and left him on to get sent off, and ruin any SLIM chance of even a point, our team is being destroyed from the inside.

What’s ridiculous about this entire situation is that our problems have been obvious for one, two years and somehow nothing has been done. We knew Fabregas wanted out, we knew a few months ago Nasri was done. As for a goalkeeper well that’s been obvious for three seasons and nothing was done till the S man emerged recently. Most importantly the defense. Dear god why has this not been fixed in years?? There is no excuse. Buying Squillacinwas a typical Wenge half measure.

And now we face the abyss. No good player wants to come here see Juan Mata to Chelsea, Hazard giving us the finger. We have the stink of failure on us these are players who would loved to join us a couple of seasons ago. Spurs are now a greater lure for gawdsake. We have signed one decent player– a fact that beggars belief.

Wenger, the board, Ivan who knows, they are all to blame. Dropping out of the top four is a certainty. And all of this, all of it was eminently avoidable, fixable, predictable. There is no surprise here, just Wenger’s stubbornness, ineptitude and a US dominated board of upper class well healed who just want to sit in the sky box, sip martinis and couldn’t kick a football if their life depended on it, and who see their Arsenal board membership a status symbol like the latest BMW or a gold club membership.
