Wenger offers paltry £6m to take Cahill to Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has tabled an offer of only £6m, plus extras, for England international defender Gary Cahill – just a third of Bolton’s valuation of the player. That’s according to the Daily Mirror this morning.

The paper says Arsenal have turned their attention to Cahill after failing with a £12m offer for Everton’s Phil Jagielka, and stepping back from Blackburn skipper Chris Samba because of his price-tag.

The report says our move for Cahill is ‘bizarre’ as Owen Coyle has made no secret of his willingness to sell – at a fair price. Bolton insiders claim the Arsenal bid is ‘taking the mickey.’

Cahill is in the last year of his deal and is eager to join an elite club, but Bolton will not accept a low offer or any effort to destabilise their star man. Wanderers paid £5m for Cahill and now value him at £17m

Meanwhile there are reports that Arsenal could be dealt a further setback in the aim to rebuild the side, as Tomas Rosicky is thinking of moving away from the Emirates amid interest from Wolfsburg.

Elsewhere the Mail claims the Gunners have entered the race to sign France’s latest teenage sensation M’Baye Niang. The 16-year-old striker is already in Caen’s first team.

The Telegraph says Cesc Fabregas believes that Arsenal must make the Emirates as “special’’ a home as Highbury, adding that the process will begin when his former team start winning trophies.

Told that Samir Nasri had dissed Gooners’ lack of passion since moving from Highbury to the Ems, Cesc said: “I think you should ask the proper fans that pay every year for season tickets. I never felt as at home at any other stadium in the world as I did at Highbury but it was not my decision to move, it was the club’s decision. It was what they needed.

“Highbury was a special thing. Arsenal have to make the Emirates their own home now and with their own cabinet of trophies to start all over again.”

The Sun says Nasri has ‘slammed’ the Arsenal for lacking ambition. He said: “I started talks with Arsenal about a contract extension last October. But June came around and I had not heard any news and I could not see any players being brought in during the transfer window.

“At a given point you have to make an investment. I would hear from time to time it was ‘a question of money’. It’s fair to say I will earn a good living at City. But I am 24, I have reached a turning point in my career and it was important for me to join a club that matched my ambitions. I see myself more likely to win trophies at City now than if I had stayed at Arsenal.

“City have an enormous squad but the competition for places will make me challenge myself and improve my game. I won’t retreat into a comfort zone — and maybe that is what I did when I was at Arsenal.

“Joining City is a risk but you take risks throughout your life. In any case, I am not afraid — I weighed up the pros and the cons. I did not see myself leaving England. The question arose of whether to go to United or City.

“But I prefer to make history with a club, rather than be just one player among the rest. I spoke with Patrick Vieira at City — they are the club of the future. My transfer has been a real saga. It’s a huge relief to have finally signed and I am very happy.”

6M ? … too much for a player in last 10 months of a contract. Don’t pursue now, take him summer 2012 for free … and what Bolton loses out now, should be deducted from Coyle next few years …

These days contracts mean little. The power is ALWAYS shifted towards the player. If Cahill does not renew his contract Bolton will lose him on a free but we will not get him. Liverpool,Man City,Chelsea will all be after him and he will choose them over us. Arsenal need to look at their priorities. If we are in need of a player of cahill’s ability then a fair price for both parties has to be agreed.
£12 million is fair. Not exactly the asking price as he will leave for nothing in 10 months. But paying 12 million because you need him now and dont want him going anywhere else.

The players bring the trophies, Samir. The club does not. What better ambition is there than to help bring success to a club. You so-called stars, with wages inflated by sugar daddies huge oil-money injections, see it the other way around.

It does not get less ambitious than that

Well said mate! Nasri is no star, he’s just another footballer wanting to join a team to achieve glory. Real stars lead the team to glory, they don’t join a good team to win. They  make everyone around them a better player. Dennis is a perfect example.

The Bolton News however do, they have strong connections to BWFC. They’ve reported it, it’s true: Wenger bid £6m. It really is taking the pi$$. I guess he’s trying to play negotiations hard-ball because everybody knows he has a pile of cash. He’s pitched waaaaaay too low for an opening bid though, just because you start there doesn’t mean we’ll let it finish mid way between there and the asking £17m Wenger, Cahill will not be unsettled so easily he’s more professional than that.

£6,000,000 when they got £24,000,000 for a player in the last year of
his contract, They do not want to spend the money as Nasri said Arsenal
lack ambition and also £36,000,000 for Cesc who was also in the last
    year of his contract.

We shuld tell Arsehole Wenger where to go.

Aziz KJ if thats the case 6m been too much for a player in the last year of his contract would you be happy if you got less than £12m for Nasri and Cesc?

We need to take note of nasri’s comments.  Yes, he wasn’t great after january but this shows us that we need a better squad to motivate our first team so they never let up.  If our first team know that if they mess up or take it easy they wont get drop then we will never win anything.  Wenger and the board should have learned years ago that we can’t just rely on a decent first 11 because our injury record means most the squad will play a few games.

They are being paid huge amount of money and they’re supposed to be stars or even super stars. They should be able to motivate themself and not blaming the squard, the manager, the fans, or the weather or whatever. This si pure crap! If he is such a big player, he should be leading the team to glory and not disappearing for half a season because he was not motivated or the team didn’t show enough ambition. He’s a money grabbing baby, end of! Stop trying making excuses!

I totally agree. With Cahill being in the last year of his contract normally the price of a defender would be around £6-8 million. But due to the fact that the player is english and the whole world knows we have money that fee aint gona cut it. Bolton will not turn down 12 million. That is a fair price. They will not risk losing that amount.
But wenger better up the ante quicktime. Its sods law that Alex will go to juventus, and Chelsea will offer cash plus sturridge for cahill. Seal the deal arsene.

How much is Cahill really worth? We know that defenders are never as expensive as mid-fielders or strikers. Gael Clichy was a defender with champions league experience and international caps, yet he went for about the same money as we are allegedly offering for Cahill who has little or no experience at that level.
I agree that in a sellers market we will probably have to pay a premium but how much are we really prepared to pay? Coyle may be just trying to up the ante in negotiations or maybe he’s been reading the back pages too much and thinks he can get strikers money for a centre-back.
Nasri is in it for the money. He’d rather sit on the bench earning twice what he was offered at Arsenal to play. You can’t blame him for that, but in ingratiating himself with Man City fans he is bound to alienate us.

Some of you just don’t get it do you?  Wenger is in the process of NEGOTIATING a price for the player, Coyle is also in that process.  Coyle is REPORTED  to have asked for £17 million, Wenger is REPORTED to have offered £7 million.

If Wenger had offered £17 million no doubt Coyle would have asked for £20 million.

What a gullible world we live in. Half the time we read daily twaddle stating certain individuals have bid, done this when in actual fact they totally deny having even made contact with the proposed player and often this is backed up by the selling club somewhere in the blogosphere.

We live in the Arsenal world not the Citeh Chavski world…totally different kettle of fish altogether.
