Gooners vote with feet as Arsenal on brink of crisis

If the Arsenal hierarchy – Stan Kroenke, Ivan Gazidis, Arsene Wenger or who ever it is that are the main powerbrokers at the club – want further evidence that we are in an alarming decline on and off the pitch, perhaps they should consider a missive that has come my way.

It is from the head of one of our main supporters groups and it outlines the big drop in interest from Gooners travelling from this particular area to home games. I print it here but have withdrawn the identity of the supporters club.

All **********  Members

So far this season’s demand for trips has been extremely poor.  Substantial loses have been made on the trips already run, with over £400 being lost on the Bolton trip this Saturday.  As there are only 15 booked on for the Stoke trip, and just 10 for the WBA trip, I am expecting further substantial loses on both these trips.  To try and ensure that future trips are economically viable I will have to significantly reduce the number of trips I intended to run this season.  Hopefully by condensing the demand, the remaining trips will still go ahead and I will not have to disappoint those that have already booked by cancelling a trip.  In addition, this should stop future financial loses and reduce the overall deficit that there will no doubt be in the **********  accounts at the end of this season.

Unfortunately, I will now not be able to run trips to:

 Everton Sat 10 December

 QPR sat 31 December

As already stated, the  Fulham game on Sat 26 Nov is ticket only and so is the Wolves game on Boxing day.

I have applied for a limited number of tickets for these 4 games, so ‘tickets only’ are available: £37 members, £38 non-members.

This now means that there will be a 2 1/2 month gap between trips (WBA 5 Nov and Man Utd 21 Jan).  I apologise for this lengthy gap, but there seems little point in trying to run so many trips when there is clearly not the demand from members.  Moreover, the **********  can’t support the losses incurred. A few members have told me that they now ignore the booking deadline as they know that their applications will be successful, even when applying just a couple of weeks before the game.  Although this view is almost certainly correct, it could be counter productive as I may, wrongly, assume that there is not the demand for a coach trip and therefore have to cancel it.  To help me gauge the true demand for a trip, please could members ensure they have sent in their applications by the deadline day – or at least within a week of it passing.

As there are now only two trips being run between now and the end of January it is hoped that members will now want to go to either the Stoke trip (Sun 23 October 1:30 ) or WBA trip (Sat 5 Nov 3pm) .  Please try and bring some guests if possible.

Hopefully, demand will start to pick-up for the second half of the season, but I will obviously have to review the situation if the demand is still very poor.  It seems unlikely that we will run 15 trips this season so  ABB+ members will receive an appropriate refund at the end of the season.

To reduce the loses for the Bolton trip I am offering ‘tickets only’ or, if preferred, tickets with coach travel.  Please ask anyone you think may want tickets or coach travel.  The loss for the Bolton trip is mainly due to the number of unsold tickets. Ticket cost are £36.

It’s indeed a sign of the times and a sad state of affairs. Another indication of the level of support for the team and the current regime will no doubt be the attendance for tonight’s Carling Cup home game against Shrewsbury. The club will not be able to massage the figures as they do for the majority of home games. Are we in crisis? Well, if we’re not, we ain’t far off. Tonight and Bolton at home are now crucial.

isnt it possible to put this down to the economic downtown? People have less money in their pockets and its not only about the current run of performances

Could be, but if the team is winning, there will always be enough fans who can, or are willing, to cough up.  After all, there is a big pool of Gooners, is there not?   No, the more likely reason is because people think the games are  likely to give them a bummer experience.

The Arsenal Board had better wake up before swathes of empty red seats appear on match days at the Emirates.

Club is run by old farts top to bottom, who’s heads are buried deep in the sand! Fact that the tickets for next 3 home games are for sale to general public some it all up….  something unheard of couple of years back!

Know many fans who have already written off this season and hence lost interest in the club, not because they are plastic fans but the way the club has been run for past 5/6 years. Are truly tired and fed up with same old excuses regurgitated every season by Arsene, Gazidis & the bloody spineless Board!!!

That’s fine by me, more and easier to get tickets for true supporters to buy. If I was living in England and didn’t have to spend 4-500 euro every time I wanted to watch Arsenal play I’d be there every week regardless of whether they were winning or losing and regardless of whether it was Shrewsbury or Barcelona they were playing. I love my club and I will support them in the bad times just as much as I do in the good times. Our team is suffering from a lack of confidence at the moment and you plastic gooners think that abandoning them is the answer to that?
Stupid people, not supporting your team when they’re down is only going to make things worse.
Arsenal for life, whether they play for trophies or in the Blue Square I will always sing their name.

@mattuso ur right where as before the fans were willing to scrape the funds together to go watch there team play cos they thought they had a chance of winning now that arseanl havent won anything in so long they would just rather buy or use the money for someone else and the game against blackburn should see all travelling fans refunded as it was a dreadfull showing

the best thing that can happen is to lose more games in a row and some by a wide margin. The problem is wenger…it isnt the board…they just go along with him. He has influenced them with his (apparent) sharp financial attittude…and it isnt the board restricting his activities in the transfer windows.
WE HAVE THE MONEY….but as this article indicates gate receipts are likely to fall so the downward spiral will start to gain momentum. Wenger’s appalling transfer deals leading to 6 barren years have resulted in cesc and certainly nasri and clichy seeking success elsewhere…other players look to follow them away from the sinking ship…fans desert watching a pathetic team and the income starts to dwindle. Wenger is an economics professor I believe…its very ironic that he cant see where the lack of quality player investment has got us.
Contemplating arsenal losing as a positive is probably a crazy idea to many (like me) diehard gooners..but that is the quickest way out of this. A win here and there and finishing as low as 8th will probably still keep wenger in a job…and another season of mediocrety (and who knows maybe a relegation fight) will beckon.
Any fan that still believes and trusts wenger has my sympathy.

Any fan that calls for Wengers head without saying who will replace him is a mindless idiot.
Any “fan” who would like to see Arsenal lose is an idiot too. Are you really telling me you are enjoying watching Arsenal lose just so you can be right? We don’t have the money, transfers aren’t just about having 50 million to spend in the fee, it’s about having the wages to pay which we don’t have. 110,000 tops is all we offer, if we go higher than that for a player then we have to start giving our other players higher wages too or watch them leave for more money. We also don’t have trophies to tempt them with. The only thing we have that is attractive to any player to come to Arsenal is Wenger, we lose him then our mid-table wage structure will come into full effect and no one will want to sign for us. We will lose Van Persie and all the other players who are only staying out of loyalty to Wenger and we will no longer be the most appealing club for young talent to go to. Losing Wenger when we need him most when there are no other managers out there that can do what he has done with the funds available to him would be the end of Arsenal as a competing team for many years to come.
I don’t know why I’m even talking to a “fan” who actually wants to watch his team lose. Go support Spurs if you want to see Arsenal suffer.

      • Wenger out NOW

Desmond you stupid akb idiot!! All this fucking go and surport spurs shit because we want the best for Arsenal. Im a fucking season ticket holder. I go to all the away games. I fucking want us to lose so that old senile wanker fucks off.
You state…..We will lose Van Persie and all the other players who are only staying out of loyalty to Wenger and we will no longer be the most appealing club for young talent to go to…..Are you some fuck head? We are losing all our best players becuase of wenger. The only fucking players we cant get shot of are the shit that he is paying a shit load of money to, like denilson, bendtner, Almunia, as no other mug club will pay what we are paying that lot of shite. Did you know we are paying Denilsons wages while he cant even get a game in brazil?
You the go on to say…….We don’t have the money, transfers aren’t just about having 50 million to spend in the fee, it’s about having the wages to pay which we don’t have……..yea because we have all that shite on massive fucking money.
His lost it Desmond. He has gone!! We have been a joke for the last 3 years. Remember when we were 4.2 up against the spuds in injury time 3 years ago and then drew 44? That thing is happening again and agian and again.
So hopefully when he fucks off your go with him as its not our club you love but that prick that is about to bring the club down. Im just off to watch the 8.2 again. Ohh maybe the 4.3. Or the 4.4 at newcastle last year, or losing at home to west brom, or…………

i have read desmond kreijne’s responses to many responses on here and i believe him to be wenger’s love-child. There can be no other explanation for such sickly and psychophantic support for the failure known as wenger.I have explained to this “cretin” exactly why losing may be a good thing in the short term…it speeds up the process…a bit lile having surgery for a continuing problem.
But idiots like him only see whats in front of their noses and to make their irritation with realistic fans complete they suggest supporting the spuds!….wheres the link mr brain-of-britain?

And yet again you offer absolutely no viable replacement or proper solution at all. I’m a cretin? Then how come you can’t even refute any of the points I made?
All you do is cry, moan and make personal attacks at people that refute your opinions. You see in my world a cretin is someone that can’t participate in an exchange of ideas without throwing their toys out of the pram and resorting to personal attacks when someone disagrees with them. You see I use my real name because I will stand behind my opinions and am open to all forms of criticism of those opinions. I would have considered your opinion too if you actually had anything to say, but as it turns out you don’t. You would have been better served proving me wrong but you can’t, can you?

I know you will not suggest any other manager for the job (because there really are’t any), I know you won’t approach the concept of wage structure or talk about any of the things I discussed because you have absolutely no clue what you’re talking about.
Feel to call me all the names you like, when people view our posts they will see that I tackled the points you made, I came up with my own opinion on the best way forward and instead of having anything constructive to say you this post is the best you could do.

If it’s in front of my nose then why are you unable to point it out to me?

You see I said go support the spuds because they have two players with the exact same attitude as you, Gallas and Adebayor. So the spuds sound exactly like the kind of team you should support. Because while I won’t always agree with every other Arsenal fan I will always show respect to my fellow gooners and I will never, ever want my team to lose.

What Arsenal is in immediate need of is a QUALITY DEFENSIVE COACH that is also very mobile.  You can talk to players about their errors until you are red in the face, they will not understand.  You have to be able to demonstrate likewise.

I reached the conclusion that neither Wenger nor Pat Rice have answers for “OUR problem DEFENSE”.  The truth is before you can attempt to solve a problem you have to know exactly where it is.  It is either he is saying all our defenders are thickO’s or they are working on a different problem to which we repeatedily see at every game.

I believe we would have to be embarrassed a bit more, before his eyes are fully opened to his limitations.

Inter fired their manager today, they have had special one, Rafa, Loenardo and the latest.

Funny they seem to do well, better than us for sure. Second in Serie A for champions league (which seems to be Wengers ONLY standard of success and “consistency” these days), copa Italia winners, Italian supercopa winners in 2011 (long after special one).

Not bad, they actually win two cups without keeping a manager for 15 years.
    Shocking!

Because guess what, the club is bigger than the manager, the club and it’s people are not owned by the manager. All the Wenger lovers seem to have
forgotten this. There are other managers and change is good — as Inter, Real, AC Milan and the rest prove.

And inter are not man City so don’t argue it’s the money.

Inter fire their coach after five losses, maybe we could learn something from that…
